Getting a new headunit with usb...
My old radio died so it's time to get a new head unit with a usb connection. I need opinions on a usb head units. Also I was thinking of getting a hard for the car to mount behind the dash, my only concern is heat and cold. I would like to have like 60G or more.

In my opinion, a flash drive would serve you better, and be more durable facing the temperature fluctuations. And unless you're getting a head unit with a screen and VERY easy navigation controls to sift through even 5gb of music, going through that much is not something you should be doing while driving. A flash drive can be pulled out and updated easily.
My Kenwood DPX-701 sounds great, and I love the options and features. The fitment was a pain though. Look into Alpine and Eclipse head units as well, they strike me as very good units. Pioneer comes into a close second.

This was one of the head units I was thinking of http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...tailsComponent

i just ordered the kenwood ddx-7019. hopefully will be able to install it b4 april. will post pics. included bluetooth, an eclipse 4 channel amp. some mb quart components that we will squeeze into the front and some blau 2 ways for the back. i ordered the kna-g510 nav unit.

So I have it narrowed down to this bad cat, with the Bluetooth phone adapter, does any one have the adapter ? how does it work, I am worried about picking up alot of cabin noise.
I think I am gonna stick with Pioneer because I have a pioneer sirius tuner and remote adapter already. This thing has a usb cable and 3.5mm aux input on the back, the nice thing is the usb port and aux input are built in so it leaves the ipbus free ( I think you can only controll 2 units ) which would be used for sirius and the Bluetooth adapter.
So the USB is on the back of the HU? That's cool, just be sure to remember to run the USB extender cord that comes with it (or should come with it) to the cabin.
Pioneer is pretty genius with their Bluetooth interfaces. My Kenwood is pretty bleh, but it's hands-free talking, so it gets the job done.
If you need help with installation locations, just throw me a PM.

This was the hard drive I was thinking of getting, it is powered off of the usb which I belive the pioneer has a powered usb port. As for the heat damaging it me and my freind though they put hard drives in cars from the factory ( Nav ) which is pretty much the same as this one so. The only thing I could see being a problem is mounting it so it has some sort dampening from bumps and vibrations and still be removable to update it. He also made a point about it needing a operating system to access it ?
As for mounting the bluetooth I was thinking under the black plastic part right behind the radio, If the size permits that is. I was also thinking of running the usb cord to the center console where the oem ipod cord would come out this way it does not get in the way of the shifter.

This is pretty cool too but I can't think of a place to mount it.

I mounted my bluetooth box under the glovebox. If you get on your back and look up at the panel under the glovebox, you'll see that you can pinch two clips on the nearest side, and it will come off. If you remove the glovebox, you can mount anything there that will fit and doesn't weigh too much.
I doubt heat will do anything to it, but you did remind me about vibrations. Ummm, good luck with that.
