has anyone heard of hushmat???
All mat deadeners do the same thing.
Add mass to a panel to make it heavier, lower vibration.
Biggest difference between them is what they are made of. Asphalt obviously smells like tar and has a lower temp resistance. Rubber Butyl has a very high temp resistance and doesn't smell at all.

Actually smell is secondary to the ability to stick to vertical surfaces. Do you know what mess it can make when your mat starts falling off when the car heats up under the sun?
I say go RAAMmat. I have used it for over 6 years on my cars and it has not fallen off or ever smelled.

That's where heat resistance comes in.
Granted, I know of quite a few old eDead(asphalt) installations involving completely upside down surfaces that are just fine. That said, butyl is far superior to asphalt in the withstanding extreme heat dept.

I used RAAMmat myself. I vouch that there is no smell....
Well, not entirely true. When I opened up the package that mat came in, it had a distinct smell, but not bad. Once I put it all in my tC, I had a smell for about a day and then it was gone. Then I put the ensolite foam on top of the mat and that definately had a smell. Not the foam itself, but the adhesive used to stick the foam to the mat. That smell lasted for about 3 or 4 days. After that, no smell at all. It's wasn't a bad smell either.
