Default Help...car was robbed...

This past Friday morning some teenagers broke into my car, well sort of. Apparently when I press the lock button on the remote, it only locks the drivers side instead of both doors and hatch. It's faulty. My car is a brand new, purchased at the end of May tC. It's still under warranty and all that. They stole a bunch of electronics in the car, and an emergency credit card (which I cancelled after they bought over $1,000 worth of stuff, but that was my fault for having it in there). My question is, is Scion to blame for this faulty lock? I don't know if the police will ever find the people who did this. After I push the button to lock I always check my door, but obiously it was the only one locking. They stole my PS2, 16GB iPod Touch, and some other things totaling about $300. Does anyone here think I have a chance of asking my dealer to reimburse me with Scion products? I have an appointment tomorrow morning so they can fix the key.

well they can track the credit card and if there's a camera at the place, they can find out who was using your credit card

The police are doing that already and I'm thankful that they went to a WalMart that has tons of cameras. I'm hoping they still have my stuff if they're caught. But in the even that they're not, I sort of think I'm entitled to something from Scion.

Yeah I read the manual right after the cops left. I had always pushed it once so all the doors locked, but only the drivers side does. It's strange.

That's definitely an issue that you need to take up with Scion. Make sure you go straight to the Service Manager of whatever stealership you bought it from and tell them the story. It's an absolute must that you make them know the problem wasn't discovered until your car was broken into, and be sure to demonstrate it to them.

But that's all a moot point, because if they were dumb enough to use a stolen credit card at a Wal-Mart, they're going to get caught and be liable for anything and everything that happened. Wal-Mart is crawling with cameras, and I would assume they don't take things like this lightly.

Alright, I will definately do that. I was hysterical because I thought my things would never be returned but now I have a little more hope because of the WalMart thing. They also hit uo McDonalds and a grocery store. They spent over a grand but the credit card is giving me all the money back.

Show the dealership that your locks DO NOT work as intended and as shown in the owners manual.

If there was a defect in the remote locking that was not noticed until after the thieves took advantage of it, push to see if the dealership will step up and take some responsibility for delivering you a defective vehicle, and possibly even contact Scion Corporate (see their site for number).

Sorry for your loss, and I hope it all works out OK for you.

yeah i highly doubt that the dealership will give you anything. you're not really entitled to anyhing thats the thing... yeah they F'ed up by not giving you a workin lock mechanism.. or the way it's supposed to be.. but just like when you park at a parkin structure... they're not going to give you anything if someone breaks into your car and steals it or stuff out. you have to take it up w/ the insurance company if you want to get anything back.

dealership might void warranty since your car was broken in.

dealerships would honestly try doing that.

That's actually all great news for your situation.

* They used the card in person at more than one place locally, which exponentially raises their chances of getting caught.

* The credit card company reimbursed you for the money; now it's their problem, and they damn sure want their money back.

Thanks for the well-wishes everyone, I really really appreciate it. Hopefully they don't void the warranty...the car wasn't actually broken-in to, but they just flipped the passenger door handle so I don't think they're gonna take everything away because of that. I'd never buy from Scion OR Toyota again if that happened.

On the dealer pre-delivery test form of tests that they are REQUIRED to make on EACH car BEFORE delivery is a requirement that all door locks work both manually and via remote.

The requirements are set by Scion...

As a sample here's the PDI from for an xB Classic: http://tijil.org/scion_xb_pdi.jpg

if they give you some they probably wouldnt give you much. Ive been through the experience. Had my tc for one week, it hailed, sent my car to toyota to get fixed, they had to take it back 5 times to fix up something else they would scratch as if they waited till the last minute to fix my car. I wanted them to give me some for all the trouble and they said theyd give me five choices of alarms to choose from and in the end they chose a cheapo alarm for me. because installing it would cost 200 some it seems like alot to them.

They promised me the premium deck when they sold the car I paid for and had me wait an extra week. Dealership tried to play it off as it the auxiliary plug was premium. @_@. I've been through 4 different scion dealers and non of them were helpful, but I do wish you the best of luck on your situation.

my advice is before you go to the dealership film the lock issue...evidence ya know, for when you get scion corporate involved.

well honestly I wouldn't take it to the dealership, I would just let the insurance company deal with it. since your car is already broken in and you didn't tell them about the lock issue before hand ... they can use that against you. Also I work at walmart, and I can pretty much guarantee the cops will find out who did it within days. good luck with your car and belongings

Insurance company says that they can't do anything about it since they didn't force their way into the car. They told me to take it up with the dealer. I have an appointment this afternoon 1:30pm eastern so I'll update when I get back.
