Default Help Me With Speaker Choices.....

Hey im turning to the audio gods on scionlife to figure out what a good set of speakers would be for my tc with my current system. Right now i have 1 Kicker L5 12'' in the Ported Kicker Box with an American Pro 1200 watt amp. Rockfordfosgate Wiring. I have Jensen 7'' flip out i think it has a5 volt preout....

I dont know much about speakers so i was wondering what would be a good set of componets for a good price,,,I am in college and funds are tough but my b-day is next month and mommy and daddy are asking waht i want and i was thinking some new speakers

What are some good Componet Speakers or Setups that you guys think would sound good without breaking the bank?

Thanks

A price range would be extremely helpful. Breaking the bank means different things to different people.

budget is tough because i dont have much money being a broke as a joke colleg student but my rents want to know what i want for my bday so im thinking around the 200 range if thats even possible?

Sound I want is well my Kicker Sub pounds pretty good and my lyrics are somewhat drowned out and i want a loud crisp sound out of my speakers.....Amping the speakers would require more money that i dont have to work with,,,, but maybe down the road of course

Installing a set of nice components or even coaxials and not amping them will not make them perform to their potential and might make them sound like crap at higher volumes. Do it right the first time and buy the amp and the speakers at the same time.

Go to your local audio store(s) (NOT BestBuy or Circuit City!) and listen to some components. We all hear differently so what might sound really good to me could sound like crap to you. You can find some good low-entry components for $200. I would definitely amp them up so that you get the true potential of the components.

Agreed. Take a listen at a few stores and check out different models, even the more expensive lines. I ended up buying a nice new set of comps off ebay for under $200 shipped for a pair of speakers that retailed for between $700-$1000.

I agree you need to go and listen for yourself, as various brands/models each have a different sound quality that some people prefer more than others. If you go to a dedicated audio shop they might even have some installed in a similar car you could listen to, which would be preferred, because any set of speakers will sound different mounted in a display room wall. Good luck, you can certainly find something decent for <$200.

Amp wattage needed depends on a few things;
- How loud you like to listen
- Crossover point between sub(s) and mid/hi
- Specific brand/model of speakers used (not sub)
Depending on the above, the required wattage would likely be between 30wpc and 120wpc, which is quite a range for power, as well as size and price.

If the amp used for your sub is a 2 channel model, yes, you could use it to power both the sub and sat speakers concurrently. However, it's not recommended for several reasons;
- Requires LARGE inductors in passive crossover for sub LPF and mid HPF
- Large coils waste power, lower SQ and cost as much as an active crossover
- When you have the sub loud, SQ of the satellites will suffer.
- Using an inductor/coil/choke is a terrible thing to do to a speaker
Much better off going active with a second amp. If your sub amp is a 4 channel model, then say so, as that's a different situation and you might be all set, nothing more to do than reconfigure the system.

HTH!

^ Go to a local store and listen in order to decide what you like. Then hit the web and find the best prices. Next ask people here (and/or elsewhere) if those companies (or Ebay resellers) are safe to purchase from.

Follow those steps and you'll get what you want at the best price.

sonicelectronics.com have good prices on car audio, I bought a good amp from them at half price that u would spend in any store (best buy, tweeter, ect.) But u wont have manufacturers warranty (only 1 year that website provides) cause they are not authorized retailers : P and for $200 bucks i think u can get decent pair of speakers with matching power amp.
