Help with my gauge needles.

Help with my gauge needles.
Well I took my gauges apart to do the LED swap on them which turned out great.... but now my gas and engine temp needles are WAY lower then they should be. I tried moving them to where they should be with the needles installed and they stay that way for the first time I start my car, but then drop all the way again. Anyone know what I did wrong? This isn't that much of a big deal, but it is super annoying.
Here is a pic of what I mean. This is with my car off obviously

How far down did you put the needles? What you need to do is losen the needles and then move them up, not moving the motor, then get them a little tight again, and pull the motor down until the needles stop. Then pop the needles back off and place them down correctly. Just don't put them on to tight or they won't move. Sounds like to me you just need some adjusting honestly.

Does the motor spin free or grind any when you move the needles?

take the needle off, rotate the motor all the way counter clockwise, then rotate the needle so it sits correctly at the "off" position. which would be the cold and empty part. Same thing happened to me with my speedo, it drooped down, so i just had to reset the motor by turning it counter clockwise.

That is pretty much the easiest way. And to make it even easier:
1) Barely put the needle on in its max position
2) Start turning it backwards. You will feel the motor hit its stop. Keep turning the needle.
3) When the needle is at its zero point, press it the rest of the way on.
Always do this with no power applied. When power is applied the needle motor will be held in place. Just do it when you have the gauges out of the car. Works perfect every time.

when i do these swaps i barely put the needles on and turn the key to the on position.... the needles fluctuate up to the max position and back down to rest position. move as needed, then firmly press.... don't make it any harder than it is ;)

^^ Which is why I do it with the gauges out. The very simplest and safest way to do it. When the fall back to the min position, they are resting on their stops, same as when you do it my way.
If you put them in the car and turn on the key, the gas gauge will not be at its bottom position unless the tank is bone dry. And if you have driven it too soon before that, the temp gauge wont be bottomed out.
Again the absolute best way is out of the car before you put it back together. You can see better, align them better and they will come out perfect every time following the process mentioned before.
