Default Home made short shifter

Well, I was thinking about making my own short shifter.

If I take it out and cut an inch and a half out of the shaft itself, is it possible to weld it back together? My cousin is a great tig welder and he said he could do it for me, it should work, right??

Thanks in advance guys.

first off, thats not gonna make it a short shifter, it will just be lower. however, if thats all you want, go for it, i bought a short shifter and trimmed it down about 2 inches so it is lower. just make sure you have the right shift **** that will go onto your new shifter which probably wont have threads.

Default Yeah

Well what I was gonna do is keep the threaded end. Like cut the shaft itself in half, then cut 1.5 inches off then eld it back together (it would be just like stock except shorter.)
I know it won't make the throw shorter, I will be getting a real short throw shifter later on, but for now lowering it would be nice in itself.

i suggest you read through this thread.. lots of info for you...

cutting the shaft will just make you loose leverage thus making it a little harder to shift. if you wanted to shorten the throw, you should add lenght to the bottom after the ball.. but keep reading there and it'll all be clear.. [/url]

second this. I took a look at the shifter and it seems like the ball part slides around the shaft. I might take it out and get a sledge hammer and knock that ball up about .5 inch. then use whatever means i can to make sure it doesnt move from the new position. this will be my attempt at a short throw shifter without losing thread on top and still able to make it a lil lower with shorter throws.
