Default How can I make this look better?

Ok, I got the Pioneer AVIC-N2 DVD/Navigation system installed from the dealer. They took the door off because they said the screen wouldn't flip out all the way. So now I have been trying to figure out if there is anyway to make it look better as it is, or if anyone else has this same head unit, if there is a way I can use it and keep my door.

That's with the screen up

Those are with the screen closed, the bottom two pictures are to show the amount of space on the top and bottom of the head unit. Sorry about the blurry pictures.

Here are some pictures of my car, just for fun

Any help, ideas, suggestions would be nice. If anyone has pictures of what they have done, those would be great too. Thanks.

It's hard to get it to look clean.... having some good fiberglass work would help it out... but that's about it.... There are a few guys who has fiberglass filled in that whole aread and just made a single din area, with gauges underneath...

We only suggest double din screen decks for this reason, as having the door is a GREAT feature from Scion in our car and adding any fold out screen eliminates it.

Yeah, but when the dealer said I could get this and I knew it's something I wanted to do, I just got it, especially since I could finance it. I didn't know at the time that I wouldn't get my door. What size guages could fit in there?

Yeah that would be cool, is the pic of it the one in your car? I think that sounds like a good alternative.

the FiveAxis incorporates the avic-n3 system in its tC (you know.. the lime green with the 42" plasma in the back).. they used a metra kit made for scions to fill in the gap.

that's as clean as you can make it look.

Thanks Squal, I think I'll check that out, and I gotta try and find that carbon thing the other guy was talking about.

Thanks for all the opinions so far guys! If anyone else has any other ideas, let me know! Thanks!

I used a dremel tool to carve out enough space so I could keep the door with my N3. I didn't want to lose the door, so there was really only one option - cut it to allow space for the screen to flip out.

I'm not sure if I'm following what your saying. Where are you cutting? Do you have any pics? Thanks.

Yeah, I searched the metra kit and it looks kind of like what I have already. I jeard someone else say before that you can flip the whole plastic housing upside down, so that small storage cubby is on top and the stereo is on the bottom, so when the screen flips out, there is enough clearance for the door, anyone try this?

Plus, I lost my door when I moved, anyone know where I can get another one for a good price, just the dorr and the little springs for it and what not, thanks.

That also depends which dash kit you have. Yours bolts in and how the screws are offset the kit might not be able to be flipped.

This is what I was going to recommend, just flip the kit upside down, mark new holes in the kit and use a small drill bit to make new holes to mount the kit. I don't know that the tC dash looks like inside so it may not be possible. Good luck.

Used my camera phone (no digital camera) so they don't look that great, plus it was night time.

Wow, no joke, you did cut it! lol, Hmm, I don't know if I would do something like that, it's kind of extreme. But I do appreciate you taking the time to post pictures for me. I think when I find time I'm gonna flip the housing upside down and see how that works out.

Thanks again guys for all the suggestions.

is that not even straight?

I'd love a door in my xB. I just got my screen stolen a while back. I'm thinking about modding a tc door into it.
