Default hvac/radio lights...

Alright fellas. I'm new to the site, but not new with cars.

Here's the issue. -----When I turn my parking lights/headlights on, the radio light and the hvac light turn off. Turn the headlights off, they come back on.

Now some info on this situation.
-If I take the hvac controls out of the car "unplug them", and then turn the lights on, the radio lights will stay on.
-if I take the instrument panel lights' fuse out, and turn the headlights on, with the hvac plugged back in, both radio lights and hvac lights work.
- the only thing done is the instrument panel lights have the led conversion done on them.

I was looking for some insight from some of you tC guys,

Thanks in advance.

I thought so tOo, however, I already replaced the unit with a different one.. Now what's the chances in have a short in 2 different units? Slim to none I think. But I guess there's always that chance. Its got me puzzled.

Has me guessing. i JUST finished my LED conversion to the HVAC and instrument Cluster with resistors. Also swapped in two white LEDs for the radio backlite on the stock '05 unit without issues.

Have you pulled the radio to see if for some oddball reason the HVAC will light up without the radio installed?

P.S. I went with LEDMODS.com kit and have absolutely no complaints.

What year model? If it is a 2007 that is a common issue and I have a fix posted on this site for it. The issue was a poor solder joint on a transistor in the dimmer control circuit on the board.

Its an 06, I did take out the radio, had the same issues. I put an aftermarket radio in it, got rid of half the problem.. Now the radio lights will stay on, but still no climate controls

I read somewhere that both the instrument panel and the hvac conversions should be done together? I'm not sure if maybe that has something to do with it or not

You dont have to do them together

Is it a stock head unit? If so, usually you wire up a dimmer input on them. If any connections are bad on the dimmer control circuit it could be causing an issue.

If you can wiggle the harness and make the problem come and go then that is an area to start in.

Also, if the connections are bad back at the cluster that can even do it.
