Default I Need Help From You Audio Guys!!! (subs and amps)

ok heres the thing i hhave an 05 scion tc and my car came with the dealer installed bakooka sub (10 inch) and amp it was good for awhile but now i need more. what i need to know because i dont have experience in this is that i want to keep the box because it fits really good and takes up almost no room in the trunk. so i am going to get another 10 inch sub and a new amp for it. so will the wiring be all the same from the dealer stuff as it will the amp and sub i buy? basically will i just have to unplug one and then plug in the other or will they not fit and have to do new wiring?

here is the sub ive considered
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1166840602951
anything i should know about this sub good or bad anything and could someone recomend a good amp for it

thanks guys anything will help

it depends on how much you wanna spend, but i think you could do better than kenwood for 90 bucks.

May I suggest HERE as a start? Put in your car info and then you can choose a sub and read the reviews on them.
I buy all my audio needs there.

its really not that much more than anything else. 300 wrms isn't a lot but don't judge a speaker and how good it will be by watts. there are a ton of good speakers out there that sound amazing with a relatively small amount of power

bingo. kenwood makes decent headunits and navigation but subs. don't. what are you looking to spend? what are you really looking for as far as sound goes.

you're going to have to re-do everything. new wiring, new amps etc.. that bazooka is a POS.

but yeah post what you want as far as sound goes, what you listen to and the guys here and i will hopefully try and help you out as much as we can.

well its not the price on the subs that bother me at all i could spend 150-200 and not be to worried. but still i just want the one 10 inch to fit the same box. But its 300-500 dollar amps that go with em that kill me.

i listen to mostly rap songs like
top back
2 step
airforces
da blow
throw some d's

To name jus a couple i usually play

So basically songs that i want to be able to have a stronger bass for

but all i need from the sub and amp is something thatll rock the car but i also dont really want something to blow out the nieghborhood either so just somewhere in between

ok ok...im glad you asked. I have two of these kenwood 10"s in my tC and they are AMAZING. I can out due anyone at school and they won me a trophy over here at a show in orlando. I am running mine to an alpine amp pushing 600 watts rms. If you are only going to run one, I suggest you save money and buy a matching 300 watt rms amplifier. Alpine makes good amps for a couple reasons, they are a good name brand company and have a very good price on their amps. I bought all my stuff at bestbuy also, make sure you get the insurance on all of it. I have traded in my sub already just because I wanted to, its awsome you just grab a new one and switch it out lol!! I dont know how much bass you are going to get out of the bazooka tube, considering the fact that it was designed for the sub that was in there to begin with. If you eventually think you want 2 subs buy the "mrp 650" alpine amp and the two 10" kenwood subs you were looking at. Run the subs bridged so that it drops it down to 2 ohms so that the amp will put out the full 600 watts rms. I put the subs in bestbuys qlogic ported 10" sub enclosure and you will have an awsome sounding system, its just too perfect. Heres a pic of mine:

oh i see the setup now. well the same thing applies, that enclosure was specifically made to use that sub wich means you might not get the results you were looking for. I still recommend the one kenwood sub and a matched 300 watt rms alpine amp for awsome results. They are great products at a great price.

ok i got another question (probably a dumb one) what happens if ur amp has more power than ur sub? does that blow out the sub or is it the opposite and keeps the amp from overheating. god i feel dumb i know nothing

its ok that you know nothing lol, everyone starts somewhere, most of us learn by trial and error and some of us get lucky and find a site like scionlife that has people that are willing to help out. when your amp puts out more power than your sub can handle that is no problem at all, there are adjustments on the amp, one of them is called "gain" this is the amount of power you want your amp to put out, simply turn it down so you dont blow the sub. If you get the insurance on the sub you can blow it all you want and return it! So its all good either way lol.
