Default Installed Head Unit... Antennae not so good

Ok so i need a little help. I installed a head unit (sony xplod) into my 05 tc. everything works, FM, CD, etc... The only thing is the antennae is crap. I can only really pick up 2 stations and whenever i move close to the HU the signal weakens or gets strong depending on where i touch, almost as if using me as an antennae.

i tried to connect the blue Antennae wire on the HU to the blue antennae wire on the harness, no luck. I plugged the tc's antennae cable into the hu and still crappy reception. Currently i have the 2 blue wires disconnected and the HU's and the Tc's antennae cable (black cable with metal prong) taped toegther with electrical tape. This seems to be ok depending on the position of the wires BUT i can only get two stations.

Any help on why the antennae doesnt work or what i may have done wrong? This is my first HU install, it was simple minus the stupid antenna issue.

Please help me out here.

Thanks,

Well the power antenna wire is for the amp turn on. It is possible that you have a bad radio.
Do you have HID's or anything else installed in the car?

the vehicle does actually have an antenna amplifier which needs power to actually work.
i doubt anything is wrong with the antenna itself.. more likely it is either the headunit, or the install.
