Default Installing aftermarket stereo

I just got my tC and I want to put all the audio stuff I had in my GTI into it, the problem is I am afraid to break anything. Does anyone know of a step by step guide to removing the dash console to take out the factory radio? Pictures would be a bonus. Thanks.

Thanks a lot guys. Is it easy to get the power cable from the battery to the trunk of these things? Do you have to tear up a lot of carpet?

not hard at all, just make sure to run the power wire on drivers side, and RCA's on the passangers...

a lot of folks here say the hardest part is getting the wire through the firewall (use the existing holes, pref don't drill unnecessary ones). the rest is easy through the sills... the tech section is a good place to see DIYs.....the kick panels and the sills aren't really hard to take out...

Nah, that's the easy part. Lamest part is running all the wire/RCAs/power wire. :?

i've done a simple and a more in depth install in the tc.

You can run the power wire through the grommet right behind the steering wheel, way up there under the dash. This is a double sided grommet so once u get through one side, you gotta get through another layer as well.

Run the grommet around the air filter keeping as close to the side of the car as possible and then sneakin up on the battery however you wanna do it. Keep the wire below the height of the battery at all times though. There isn't much clearance above the battery.

When running through the car, you can run as large as 3/0 wire under the door trim.
If you are in a hurry-
unscrew the plastic piece holding the kick panel on driver's side. Run wire behind it, under the door trim(just pops off), shove wire behind wall in back seat area just a few inches, pull back seat up(pops off with lots of force), run wire under it then to hatch area.

Ground- pull hatch cargo area carpet up, remove left or right styrofoam piece and drill hole and mount ground terminal there.

More in depth way-
After getting wire from battery to inside of car, pull all carpet out of vehicle, then run wire parallel with center part of car(far right hand side of driver's area parallel to transmission hump), when you reach first point of where driver's seat gets bolted to, turn wire and run along this til you reach the side of the car again like above.
Run wire completely behind the rear back seat area's wall and make sure the wire is wrapped up good with electrical tape too. Run around back seat and under horizontal base that has 3 premade holes with large openings on far left and right.
Run wire through the far left opening if looking into the hatch from outside.

Now you have saved all the room under your door trim for other extra wires if need be.
