Default JL Speaker and Box questions

JL Speaker and Box question

First, I have a pair of JL w1 10v2 speakers with a 360 watt soundstream amp pushing them. The ported box is tuned to around 43 hz and the speaker is rated for 29 or so hz… I’m not happy with the sound so I’m upgrading, but I think most of my problem is the box.

Shouldn’t you always follow the manufacturer when it comes to tuning a box for a speaker? For instance, I’m buying the a pair of 10 W3v3 and JL says the box needs to be tuned to 32 hz but the guy who I have always worked with says that’s too low and it want get all the bass I need…. He said it will cover hip hop which is what I listen to but not rock and country and blah blah blah….

Can someone with real experience give some insight to this? I really think I should listen the manufacturer in this case.

jesus man. when you tune it that high its for spl and that is not an spl sub. when you want a nice sq sub sound you want to toon lower so you have a flatter response curve. 32 or so would be great for a pair of 10's but he's right its not going to be spl loud but its going to sound a hell of a lot better than if its ported at like 40hz

I made him build the box for 32 hz and it sounds like I want it to... always tune to manufacturer no matter what anybody says...
