Kenwood DNX7100 vs, Pioneer Avic D3
i have been researching double din navigation units now for a long time now. i made a few postings on the other alpine vs pioneer thread. does anyone know of any other unit that can support divx compatiablity and also have blue tooth cell phone?
so far these are the only two units i have found:
Kenwood DNX7100
Pioneer Avic D3
i would prefer alpine or eclipse. any help is appreciated

well what do u want to know about the 2...im not sure about the divx...im personally gunna get the kenwood or i am pretty sure i am i like it because of the garmin navigation..very easy to use..navigation is built in and can be upgraded with a sd card and there are free firmware upgrades..has a usb port...i was thinking of just buying a portable harddrive and hook it up. u can optionally buy the blue tooth
the d3 its nice...a lil pricey navigation u have to load the disc have it load ur route and then to play a cd or movie u have to eject the navigation disc after routes loaded . one reason i wont get the d3...because i will loose the expensive navigation disc that costs aroudn 300-500 bucks.

I'll be going for the Kenwood HU too but I'll get the DDX7019 with the KNA-G510 nav unit because it's Garmin and can easily update the maps with an SD card and doesn't use DVD maps. IDK if the DNX7100 has an SD card slot for map updates, but if it does, I'll be going to get that instead of buying them separately.
wow thanks for letting me know how much the d3 nav. disc would cost, lol i thought it would be like a free download and i could just burn it, i guess not.
and daskid,
as rvpps said above yoru post, the dnx7100 does have a sd card slot to update the navigation system. this is why i would prefer the kenwood over the pioneer and alpine models.
so i guess there are no other modesl that are double din, divx, and navigation without switching the disc besides the kenwood dnx7100

well if you have a dvd burning you can back up your navi disk. Also if you go to avic411.com they have the d3 nav disc ripped and save last time i was there, you can dl it from someone. I personally like the all in one and not have a clutter mess of multiple redundant items. The D3 fits the bill. And you can pick it up off of crutchfield for $800 shipped. My friend just installed one for his friend and that;s how much he paid for it, eventhough the price isn't reflexed on their website.
As for the pulling the nav disc to play a DVD, are you the one that will play a dvd and not pay attention to driving??? Don't even say that oh its for the passenger, because that dvd ____ is distracting. Pulling out the nav disc, if you have a set route it will store it in memory for the whole trip. Even if you dont have a route stored and you pull your disc out it will still put the map in memory.
If you are so set on watching a DVD while driving, the avic-z2 has a built in hard drive for the navi. The Eclipse 6600/6610 has dual dvd drives or 5495 w/hd.

Kenwood's website doesn't have poop about the DNX7100. The "hands on review" at Crutchfield is much better for getting info on the DNX7100. And yes, there is a SD slot just for the garmin updates. If it is anything like their other nav units they actually work on fixing bugs and stuff in the NAV OS.
there are other HU out there like the z1 and z2...those are nice but i liked the kenwood more because of the garmin nav. theres a clarion maxXXX...x's being some model numbers.. but u have to buy the seperate navigation.
^^ Yeah, Clarion has a separate navigation unit that costs about the same price as the HU. The Z1 and Z2 are pricey. I don't have the dough for them.
I have read the review from Crutchfield, and like what ichibansf said, there are tons of infos for the DNX7100. As soon as funds get to me, I'll be getting one!

Map Data Updates: You can purchase map data updates from Garmin. Check http://www/garmin.com/Kenwood to see if an update for your map software is available. Updated map data will need to be downloaded onto a blank SD-card from your PC and then inserted into the Kenwood navigation unit to be downloaded to its built-in 2GB memory.
and here is the link:

i hope that helps, lol i just realized im a lil late, but this should make it easier for other people. im almost for sure im going to buy the kenwood dnx7100 just because it can play divx. now i just have to find a great price on it
