Default Key controlled sunroof ----- Attention Installers???

Ok, so im sitting at work right now and it is getting cloudy outside. I have to go out in a few minutes and close my roof in case of rain......................and it got me thinking!!

I dont have the factory alarm option, so I have a dead button on my key. Is it possible to hook this button, via the keyless radio computer, to the ignition and sunroof controls to create a remote to close the roof? I would only be interested in closing it this way i think, as im pretty sure opening it would be nearly impossible using the single signal of the button.

Anyone thinking of something good here????

Which dead button are you talking about? I don't have the factory alarm option and all buttons on my key are functional. (You gotta hold down the warning/alarm button for a few seconds for it to work)

even if you dont have the factory alarm all your buttons should be active lock/unlock/panic.

I am a certified mobile electronics installer. You would need to find out what that button is for (is it an output on the brain of the alarm?), what kind of signal it sends out (voltage, current, polarity, and duration).

Once you figure all this out, you can continue from there. As far as I know, you most likely will not be able to do this using the factory alarm. There are many aftermarket alarms that are capable of doing this (you will need a window module to controll the sunroof.).

Ok, so i figured out that my panic button is active and therefore cant be used.......... Next option.... First off, jut so you know, I am MECP certified in Audio only, never did alarms and remote starts, but im not a noob.
What if I used a relay off of the lock function of the factory brain. Do you know if it uses a single pulse output to lock the doors? Could that be T-tapped to a relay that would send power to the sunroof motor in the close direction only?

^^^^^^^^^^

hahaha! Just tell your boss you were... uh... doing some work related research!

P.S. you would have to find out what happens at the brain of the alarm when the button is pressed. If its supposed to be a panic button, then it would send a negative output and pulse (on, off, on, off....). This won't reall work for a sunroof (unless you found the output wire, hooked it up to a relay, which would then be hooked up to your sunroof, then your sunroof would open, stop, open, stop, open, stop.... until you pressed the button again. But then you need it to close - or you could make it close, stop, close, stop...).

VW's do something like this. if you hold the key in the door in the lock position all the windows will roll up and the sunroof will close. hol dit unlock and they all open...i had a 96 cabrio and a 97 jetta that both did this. that was one of my favorite things about those cars.

you could technically hook up the output for the lock function to a 555 timer, have that connected to a relay, have the relay connected to the sunroof circuit to close it. Technically. ;)

This way, when you press the lock button, it only engages for ½ seconds, but the 555 timer hold the circuit longer, and send the signal to the relay, which will send the necessary high output to the sunroff.

So does the Acura TSX. Well, I don't know about the sunroof, but all the windows roll down as you approach the car. I wish the tC did that. Especially here in the Central Valley when it gets to be 110 degrees! If anybody finds out any info, like which aftermarket alarm system will do this, please let us know!

there are several alarms that do this. You would need a window module (which is pretty much the setup I described earlier).

I have the Viper 791XV super de-lux all-the-bells-and-whistles-and-then-some alarm on my car. It has remote start, windows up, windows down, auxiliary hooked up to my horn , auxiliary hooked up to a solenoid (which is hooked up to my throttle cable), auxiliary for my rear hatch...

There are several alarm shops in the valley, but if you are in the Tustin area, let me know, and I can set you up with an alarm to do this. (It will replace your factory alarm. Lock, unlock, panic, and sunroof - windows can be done too).

Is it possible to hook up an aftermarket alarm and interface it into the stock alarm Key?

You would need to put the guts of the aftermarket into the stock alarm key. I don't think it will fit though, but it would be nice!

should be able to monitor the voltages in the receiver module in the rear panel behind the drivers seat to see which wire goes to a high output when you press the panic button. doesnt seem like you should have to dick with the alarm module at all to bypass the panic and use some relay logic and position switches or an alarm window module.

what about the fact that when you have the sunroof FULLY open you have to close it twice since it stops 3/4 of the way for no apparent reason...or is it just my car?
