Default LEDs in car

Hi guys, let me introduce myself. Im new to this forum and I just got my first car, which is a 2005 TC. I wanted to put LEDs inside the interior but don't know whether it is legal here or not. By the way I live in Massachusetts, Boston. Thanks a lot!

interior leds should be fine.. just don't make it so it's like a disco in there and cops shouldn't care if they're on while your driving.

It's my understanding that it's illegal for the vehicle to be in motion when the interior is "illuminated". This is due to driving at night, when a dome light makes it difficult to see through the windshield, because of reflections from the interior.

I'm not completely disagreeing with you, just saying it really depends on the type of LED, it's location, how/when it's used, and how picky a given cop is about enforcing the letter of the law.

if anything an officer would be thankful for you having the interior lighting on. it allows him to see everything and feel more secure.

That's only after you're stopped, not while driving.

In some states, it is technically illegal for the vehicle to be in motion with any type of auxiliary lights on. Unless it’s very distractive, most cops won’t enforce it. But if they pull you over for something else and you start mouthing off…… My friend got pulled over for speeding and then started arguing with the cop about how fast he was going. Ended up getting cited for speeding, illegal lane change (no blinker), seatbelts, and a windshield tint strip that was ½ inch too big. The cop then told me that he was just going to tell him to slow down but he really hates people that don’t respect authority.

That's why everytime I get pulled over by a cop, it's always yes sir, no sir and have my license and insurance ready before he even walk up to the car. I just got pulled over 3 days ago for doing 85 on a 65 freeway and the female cop just let me go with a written warning

you are not allowed to have blue or red underglow because it can be considered impersonation of a government official

if it's not really visible from the outside it shouldn't be a big deal. if you do want different colored leds, then have a switch to turn it off.

well again, you are not allowed to have interior or exterior lights on while driving. except head and tail lights of course. you guys know what i'm saying . if it is parked, you can have all the colors in the world. but when driving, its illegal because its too distracting. you can't have the colors BLUE or RED because as stated above, impersonating a government official.

ya right if u ran red or blue lights underneath your car, you would get pulled over and slammed if the cop was a dick about it.

im friends with the cops in my town and ive shown them my LED's inside... they think its awesome. ive asked about being cited for it and they wouldnt... especially if toyota offers it as a mod, they wouldnt allow you to install something potentially illegal in your car
