Default Lock/Unlock Beep

I'm sorry if this has been posted. I was wondering if anyone's tC makes a beeping sound informing you that you've unlocked/locked your car. Most other cars do and is there anyway you can install this feature. My tC doesn't. I'm not complaining just curious.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Didn't want to make another thread, but I tried putting a CD-RW in my 6-Disc CD Changer and it read it. Not sure if the stock one reads them, but the 6-Disc one did. Just a tad bit of info. for anyone who uses them.

do you have a button near the door hinges? i actually got the Toyota security system instead of the Scion one (i think there's a difference) and they installed a small button near the footrest. when you put the ignition in the accessory position and push the button, it toggles between sound and silent. i have mine on sound, my friend left hers on silent.

I don't understand how you guys can complain about a beep. Are you really that lazy that you can't turn around and watch your car's lights? If they flash once it is locked. If they flash twice, it unlocks the driver. If it flashes more than that it has unlocked the entire car. I think the infamous "beep" that everyone keeps on talking about is lame. Loose the noise. Only cheap ___ civics should have the beep. It is much smoother taking a girl out when you don't have your car making stupid noises. But I forgot, you guys must not know much about taking girls out, due to the fact that you worry about the beep when locking the doors as opposed to more important things, like going out into the world, off your computer, and getting laid. You should have gone with a civic. It isn't like you will ever use the "social setting" in the tC.

Most intelligent thing posted on this board. How you're comparing a beep to that on a Civic...I don't know. Considering most Honda alarm systems are silent and only flash their parking lights as confirmation for the system being armed or disarmed. The ones on my friend's Civic and another's Accord EX did at least.

The VIP RS3200 system optional on most Toyotas and Lexus' makes a confirmation beep using a piezo buzzer, as do those on some BMW systems. Last time I checked cars like Avalons, Sequoias, X5s, 5-Series, IS300s and GS430s (all of which should be available with a similar audible alert on their security systems) were not considered cheap.

Thank you again for your valuable contribution.

For those looking for something more helpful:

The manual included with my xB's security system says that on systems that are so equipped, there should be an audible alert when arming or disarming the alarm. Mine didn't, which was something I was looking for. The VIP system I had installed by the dealer on my 02 Celica had a buzzer and it was helpful to confirm that the doors were locked or unlocked when the lights could not easily be seen (from a distance, in bright sun...etc.)

I called the dealer and they said they didn't know about adding a buzzer, so I called Scion corporate and asked them. They said there wasn't an option for it, despite it being mentioned in the manual.

So far, it looks like only xA systems have come with the buzzer installed. I guess if you really wanted to, you could order the buzzer and somehow rig it up to your system. I'm no good with electronics, so I doubt I'll be giving this a try. Good luck if anyone decides to try it. If you do somehow get your dealer to put a buzzer on your car, let us know!

Wow classic post. Obvious that someone's not getting any.

Looks like the security feature is the only way right now. If anyone rigs up theirs without the security feature, please do tell. Wonder if it would void the warrenty?

If you know your way around alarms, it's possible. . . my old 1990 Lexus didn't beep either.

You can go about it the easy way, and find the wire that signals the lock/unlock (there should be a didicated wire, seperate from the wire from the lock/unlock inside the car). This wire is the one that receives its signal from the remote or from the key in the door. Tap the ground. Find your horn wire, tap the ground wire, and then connect the two grounds. It's not going to be as nice as a beep, but you will get audible confirmation which is very nice. I know, it's not really that easy, but if you know your way around alarms, this is a piece of cake.

2nd option. Buy a piezo buzzer, or a siren(for an alarm). You'll need relays, you'll need wires. You'll probably need drilling or some nice high quality zip ties. Pain in the a**. Rather than do this, I'd rather just get an aftermarket alarm.

OK, just to clarify....

Can the tC's Scion Security be set to beep on arm/disarm?

Is the security control integrated into the key, or does it require a separate key fob?

Default beep ... .NOT!

.. . i installed my security system myself. . . .only took about 3hrs total. . . . from tear down, intall, to rebuild. . . ..

.. mine DOES NOT beep .. . . the lights do flash though . .. .which is funny, because in the manual it says that on tC the lights DO NOT flash . . .. but guess what, they DO. .

.. anyway, i think it is much classier without the beep . .. i have a beep on my other car and i find it any annoying and attracts too much attention. . . . i think the car will attract enough attention on its own .. .. DON'T YOU. . .

. . anyway, all you DIY'ers out there , i suggest you install it yourself. . .don't let the dealer do it. . . .and forget about the warranty they give, they will refund you deductible, but only in the first year. . . .thanx alot, i plan on having the car longer than that. ..

peace,
z

i personally would like the beep sound. i'm not talking about the horn sound. i'm talking about an electronic "beep beep" sound. much like other toyotas and lexus. i think it's a whole lot easier to hear it than turning my head back and checking for the lights. that gets a little difficult during the day time. not much of a complaint, but the beep i would like
