Default In the market for a decent alarm (help needed)

So i am looking for a decent alarm to secure my new tC. Ive had good experiences with viper so i plan on sticking with them. I dont want a remote start module as i have a 5 speed. Just looking for an alarm system that will do its job. Will this one suffice?

I already have a viper two-way transceiver so will i be able to use that remote on this system?
pictured here: http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_...32&brandtype=0

Thanks Guys

hey there breaux.... do ya know the #1 reason why I dont have an alarm on mine?
because it's fairly pointless IMO.... for this simple fact. If someone wants your car enough... they're gonna take it one way or another...and most people dont pay that much attention anymore to car alarms going off. It's generally NOT little punks wanting to take a car for a joyride anymore.... those that steal cars are the pros that do that for a living... so an alarm is just an extra 5 seconds out of their day to disable before they take your car. I'd be P.O.'d if someone took my baby...but that's life and what insurance is for. It sucks...but that's the world we all live in now.

Hey man. Yeah, i know thats why a lot of people do not have alarms. but around a college campus, it really is just punks looking to steal something that they might think is in the car. The apartment complex i am moving into this fall has been known to have cars broken into in the parking lot, and if i can catch someone doing so, it will be there lucky day.

Well i'll give you the skinny on these alarm systems since I have my MECP and used to install this stuff for years.

The aftermarket alarms are nice, they'll give you a little piece of mind.

Like Mouse said if they want to steal it, they're going to steal it.

The only thing that even delays that process is the starter kill, it is nothing but our starter wire cut and each end being ran to the wires on the alarm harness, any moron that want to steal your car has seen it and knows if the wire is cut going to 2 separate color wires simply join them back together and that's it for the starter kill.

Next is to simply turn off the siren, they will do that b unplugging the harness for the alarm.

A thief already knows the most likely place to find your alarm brain is under the dash or simply follow the wires that "do not belong".

With that being said a tC is not an easy car to steal, assuming you don't have a spec model, that transponder is a tough cookie to crack. If they have been casing your car then they have the VIN and they simply go to the dealership tell them they're locked out the car and give them the VIN to cut a new key.

Then you have those that cheap out on their remote start installs and still get the bypasses that you bury a key somewhere to bypass the transponder system, those are easy pickings for thieves too.

But like you said on a college campus they're looking to smash some glass and grab stuff.

Either of the alarms you listed are fine. You want to make sure it has a plug for an additional separate shock sensor so you have the one embedded into the brain and another an installer can run somewhere else to give you a bit more shock protection.

They do not have to locate individual door pins in the tC either, just use the dome light as a door pin where as soon as a door is opened whether it is a door or the hatch the alarm is blaring. Also, put the sirens underneath the windshield cowl.....LOUD AS HELL...well maybe mine are just loud since I have 3 sirens.

Pretty simple alarms are good for crowded areas b/c a criminal does not want to draw attention to themselves, I actually have a alarm for sale right now that is what I like to call BEAST MODE. Its a lcd 2 way system meaning if someone is breaking into your hatch it lights up on the remote on the hatch, same goes for doors or windows, it also has the option for remote start and all the goodies(even turbo timer func if needed) Head over to the classifieds and take a look.....https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=164928

thanks ecko for taking your time to write that

i guess my only question now is: will the remote i have pictured work with the alarms i listed? or are the alarms i listed only a one way system? or does the remote make it a two way system?

Remote typically will only work with the same company alarm system that makes the remote.

As extra peace of mind: relocate or disconnect the hood pop and hide it further up in the dash.

Hard to silence the alarm if they can't get to the battery or the siren....

And I don't *think* the two way remote will work on those brains. My reasoning is: the brain would have to have both the logic to talk to a two-way remote, and the increased power to send a signal back to the brain. Two-way's usually have an antenna that sticks up high on the windshield too

yeah thats what i was thinking
i wonder if i can call and order everything but the remote, the remote itself is $80 so i would have to assume that that would bring the price of a two way system down a pretty penny
