Default Mods PLEASE LOCK: Stock to premium head unit install

I'm thinking about getting the Premium Head Unit. Is it a simple swap or is there extra wiring or harnesses involved? I don't care about other head units or aftermarket stuff so I don't need to hear get this or that instead as that will be ignored. Any info on install stuff is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

all the scion units are the same as for installing them. They plug right in.

well considering i have it and it really isn't as bad as people make it out to be to me its no different that buying a cheap 100 basic stereo it has all the same features. it was one of the reasons i got my scion cause it had the upgraded stereo and personaly i think it looks clean. yes i would like an in dash double din screen but this will do for now and it has hook ups in the back for subs.

i recently did this, everything just plugs right in. unless you have one that currently doesn't have ipod support and want ipod support than you just have to buy the two wires you need for it which also just plug right in. but you don't have to get them anyway... i didn't.

The new(2010/2011) HU's don't work with the aux and ipod ports on earlier models.

The Alpine upgrade HU is a excellent unit. The speakers suck!!! Change out the speakers to good aftermarket components (Focal, Alpine, JL, Hertz). The difference is amazing.

I have a 2005 Scion with the basic sound system. Can I get the Alpine 2010 unit and have it work (save the iPod cabling)? I've searched around and can't really get a straight answer. Thanks in advance!
