My $5 In Car Phone Mount

My $5 In Car Phone Mount
Saw this on Jalopnik a while back and thought it would be worth a try. Especially considering that when I get rid of my tC, my AVIC is going to the g/f and I won't be getting a new HU for the WRX anytime soon... figured a cheap GPS app for my iPhone is easier than buying a portable GPS or new HU.
So here it is...
Instructions:

Garmin GPS Mount: $3.70 Shipped (eBay)
iPhone 4 Case: $.99 Shipped (eBay)
Results:
Haven't tried it in the car yet, but the suction cup is pretty decent. Everything should hold together. Only thing I'm unsure of is if the phone case will be simple enough for me to insert or remove the phone quickly. Worst case I do it all over again and spend another $5... OMG!

Pretty sweet. I've been trying to figure out a clean way to do this with my Droid. I hate FM radio and Siruis is insanely overpriced. I use Pandora and my Nav ALOT on my phone and it would be nice to have it within comfortable reach not just floating around.

how many of you guys use your iphone as gps? my only concern is that the screen is so small and it doen't talk to me. I think this is a great setup, but i would rather just get a cheap tomtom gps because it'll talk to me and tell me to turn a couple blocks before the turning intersection

The screen is not that bad compared to some of the GPS units out there... and as far as directions, there are TONS of GPS apps for the iPhone - including ones from Navigon and TomTom. And I'm pretty sure some of those apps are quite a bit cheaper than a GPS unit.
Though it is worth noting that GPS navigation will destroy your phone's battery - so you better have a power connection if you're using it in the car.
