Default My bass causes static?

So, I bought my car about three weeks ago now, and I have noticed that my radio is very staticy. I talked to my dealership about it, and they said it shouldn't be like that. I had the service guy take a look at it and I was told it's because my bass was up to the max and that high bass causes static. This was the biggest BS I have ever heard - when I have my ipod in, I do not hear static like I do with the FM radio. I told them that. They told me that my antenna strength was fine and everything.

Now, I am very sketched out becuase when they were installing my radio they had forgotten to even plug the antenna in. Obviously, they don't seem like pros. I am very disgusted at the explanation I received about my stereo. Any ideas/opinions?

The oem radio sucks. That is the problem! Buy a aftermarket head unit and static will go away.

^ No, not the problem, because lots of people have the stock radio but don't have static.

I own two tc's and have had the static problem he is talking about. The fix was getting rid of the oem radio.

Then why is it that hundreds (thousands?) of other owners don't have that issue?

The only point I'm trying to make is that she shouldn't have to purchase a new HU to fix it, Scion should resolve it for her via replacement or whatever's required.

Thank you. So you do not think I should settle for the bs answer they handed me? I think it's funny that the radio sounded crystal clear with my ipod, but not so good with the fm. I should have said that when they told me their explanation. They're installing XM and bluetooth on my car at the moment and I'm picking it up tomorrow, but I am hesitant to say something once again.

take it to a different dealership for a second opinion, then make a judgement.

That's a really good idea. Do you think they would charge for their time though?

^ It should be covered under warranty, doesn't matter which dealer, you shouldn't be charged. If it's only a problem with FM, the issue could be something as simple as a bad antenna connection (either at it's attachment point/ground to the body, or at the HU), which the dealer should determine and resolve under warranty.

I should add that if you turn the bass up all the way and have the volume up really loud too, it's not difficult to get the speakers to produce a LOT of distortion. That's not the same as static, but some might interpret it as such. If it only happens with FM, then it probably is static, not distortion.

^ Yes, and selling the car will solve the problem too.
