Default Nav System Installation Prices

I am going to purchase a new Kenwood DNX5120 navigation system, but I don't know anything about installing it myself. I don't want to chance screwing anything up.

Best Buy gave me an estimate of $180 for everything.

A local shop said $225.

The local shop said the Best Buy price was surprisingly good.
Is that so? I wasn't expecting it to be that much. Then again I never had this done before so I'm not sure of the prices.

Is $180 a great price? What are the prices for installation?
Anyone from LA/OC area in California know of great shops to get this done?

Thanks.

I have the dnx8120 and installed it myself and it was incredibally simple. You have to be out of your mind to pay near 200 to get it installed! Get yourself the harness to plug into the factory 2 harnesses and color match the wires with solderless connectors!

so is it pretty much plug and play? you don't have to solder or anything like that?
how do you even begin? how do you take apart the head unit to put this one in? i don't know anything! because if it is as simple as some people have said i would rather do that than spend $200. i could buy an iphone with the savings, haha.

thanks

if you can handle simple color matching and some wire splicing may be necessary i suggest you do it yourself, great to learn and its hard to mess up :/ but its up to you but maybe find someone that lives around you and give them $20 and buy them some beer would work for me

I bought an Avic-d1, and had a local stereo place install the head unit, fix my radio door, install the antenna, and clean up the wiring for $35

i just purchased the Kenwood 5120 yesterday; and i plan on doing the install myself. it doesn't seem too hard, a lot of ppl have done it themselves. i think if i could install the TRD rear sway bar and TYC tails myself i should be able to handle the stereo install.

Here's a place to get started:
http://www.club-tc.com/forums/audio-...tallation.html
- that page eased my mind re: getting to the stock radio lol

get the fit kit ( to fill in the gaps on the sides ) and the wiring harness from Crutchfield and you should be fine.

The most difficult part for a navi is the gps antenna placement as well as if you want to get the steering wheel controls to work.

all you need to do is call up crutchfield and tell them that you want to order the radio harness for the scion tc so you won't have to splice the OEM wires and the covers for the side of the radio. then just color match the wires and if you have trouble each wire will tell you front right + or - and ground-12V...etc.... how far are you from Chatsworth, maybe we can meet up and i can hook it up for you because you are paying alot for a quick and simple job.

Harness and mounting kit if needed from Crutchfield under $30......pretty much plug and play at that point.

i work at best buy, im an installer. i actually have that same screen in my honda right now (im swappin it to my tc when i buy it this winter). anyone in socal ill do install discounted. i live in palmdale so if your willing to bust a mission ill handle it.

but dont be scared to do an install, its all common sense. the panels just pop out, 4 ten mill screws hold the deck in. crimp or solder the wires, mount and your done. i did an 09 xb today that took me about 40 minutes.

good luck with your install
