Need Help!!!
Let me know if any of you have had this problem. First and foremost I did a complete LED swap several months ago which looks pretty damn sweet imo. Anyway I have never had any issues with any of the LED's or panels not working. A couple of months ago I installed a DVD unit and when I would turn on my headlights, the HVAC would shut off (lighting). Now if I press the ac button the indicator light comes on, but the screen and the buttons are off. The funny thing is I did not touch any of the wires. All I did was connect the factory wiring harness to the af one and wire it to the radio. Now I have the stock radio in and I am still having the same issue. Any answers cause this is driving me nuts. At night I cannot see what time it is unless I turn on my map lights, lol?!
I doubt that is it. The leds are not all in the same series circuit. The one thing that could cause them all to fail would be the power supply IC (the one you swapped if you installed blue, white or green leds).
I am guessing, since the head units have a dimmer control, that when you tied into that something went wrong. I have heard of people messing that up when installing a head unit before.
I would disconnect the head unit first and test.. then go from there.
If it is from the HVAC led swap, check the solder joints on the power supply IC you swapped first. If that is good, power up the board and put a voltmeter between the heat sink (larger tab on the power supply IC) and the pin on the right side. You should have 10V there if you did the kit for the blue, white or greens.. if you did red leds, you didnt need the kit, so that IC should have approx. 8 volts on that pin.

Well the weird this is that when the headlights are off, the HVAC lights up as it should. The screen is lit up and everything works. When I turn the HL's on, the screen goes off and the cubby light comes on?! When I push the AC button or the air circulation button, the light on the side goes on as it should. So that only thing that happens really when the HL's go on, is the screen shuts off and the buttons like the arrows for vent control and such don't come on. With this being said, I don't think it is the actually LED's because they all work at some point, lol. Now I put the factory d=radio back in and I am still having this issue. I actually took it to the dealer today, but they won't work on it because of the LED swap. They say the warranty is now voided and it I would have to pay to have it fixed. Which at this point I am not interested in doing especially at a dealer where they will rip me off. I also broke down the HVAC and took the radio out to see if there was a pinched wire or something, but everything looks fine to me. This really driving me nuts so if there is anyone out there who thinks they can help, please offer your advice or suggestions. If anyone is in my area, I am in Killeen, TX, lol!
BTW way I checked all the fuse inside and under the hood and they are all fine. And I didn't realize this before (because my radio cover is always closed) but when the HVAC goes out by turning on HL's, the radio does took. It still works just no lights. So I tried something. I took theradio out and connected only the HVAC thinking that maybe it had something to do with the radio, but it was still the same. Then I tried the same thing but only with the radio leaving the HVAC unplugged and still no change. I am stumped and annoyed with this whole thing!
With it basically working backwards it may lead to be something else. The 2007 had an issue where it would work a lot like that. There is a connection issue somewhere inside the HVAC, and the dealers replace the unit to fix it. So there is a chance that after working on the dash to install the radio, the problem showed its head.
As a toyota tech I will tell you it was not your led swap that caused the problem. I have seen 2-3 other tc's do the same thing with no mods done to the veh. It is caused by the hvac controll. If they do refuse to repair the problem i hate to say you may have to swap back to fact color and take elsewhere. If you can find a tech that has seen another tc exhibit the same problem they probably wont pay attention to led color and swap it out anyway personally because i have seen unmod controlls i would replace it any. You would still have to change the leds again to match the rest of the dash.
