HVAC (pronounced either "H-V-A-C" or, occasionally, "H-VAK") is an initialism/acronym that stands for "heating, ventilating, and air conditioning".

You may have blown a fuse. When my fuse was blown, all my gauges, shifter light, heating controls, and headunit lights went out, but the cubby-hole light just became dim. If your situation is similar, you may want to check your fuses.

I've wondered the same thing for a long time....just too lazy to actually look it up.
