Need Help on Scion Headunit 06
Hi guys,
I just installed a scion headunit 06 model for my 06 Camry. I got cd, AM/FM, mp3 works.
But the AUX does not work. I tried to select AUX by pressing the aux button. The scion headunit won't get into the aux mode. I don't konw if the headunit is a defeat. I also tried to feed in the audio signal, but it still does not work.
My question is:
Can you activate aux mode without feed in audio signal into the aux port?
Anyone knows how to activate the aux mode.
Thanks in advance

My 06 camry does not have the aux port, so I have to make one. And I did make one. I connected the aux port to the back of the headunit. ( I have the wiring diagram for the 06 headunit.) I did connect my mp3 player to the self make aux port and playing music. But it still does not allow me to activate the aux mode.
However, I am not 100% sure I have make the correct connection. The wiring diagram shows 4 wires for the stereo (aux) port. They are labled as : ALO, ARO, ASGN, AUXO.
I guess ALO is left channel, ARO is right channel, ASGN is ground. BUT what is AUXO? ?? Is it the key why I can not turn on aux mode
Does anyone have any common or idea?
Thanks

Finally, I found the answer from the audio repair manual of the 07 camry.
In order to turn on the aux mode, AUXO has to be short with the ground.
Basicly, I just need to connect them togeter.
For people who are going to do the same upgrade:
on the 20 pin connector (there is only one 20pin connector) ,
Pin 15- audio right
pin 16- ground
pin 17- audio left
pin 19- AUXO ( which need to be connected to ground in order to turn the aux mode on).
pin 6, pin 7, pin 8 are for the audio control on the steering wheel .
pin 3 is the speed detection which allows the headunit to automatically adjust the volume according to the road noice (require additional hardware for who doing the upgrade).
I hope this info can help those planing to install the 06 heatunit into their 02-05 scions.

Thanks for the info on your progress, but I'm having a problem duplicating your success and have a couple of questions...
I have tried connecting a 2006 HU in my 2005 using the pinouts that you listed without any success. I then checked the wiring diagram from Toyota and confirmed that your pinouts are correct (at least it looks that way to me too). I jumped the AUXO pin to the AXGN pin as you suggested, but still no luck.
A couple of questions... First, have you successfully gotten your Aux inputs to work? Also, how did you connect to the pins on the 20-pin plug? I wound up using two 4-connector mini-plugs that came from a computer wiring harness. The connectors weren't exactly the same, but the spacing was right, and they seemed to make good contact. I tried connecting & playing an MP3 player and then pushing the Aux button, but nothing happens.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated,
Thanks.

Actually, I posted the messeage about the pin layout before any test. I did the test the day after, and the test failed. I am sorry. I did not post the update because I want to see if other can make it works.
But I did not just make up those pin layout. I got those info from the service manual of 07 camry. you can download from here:
http://oregonstate.edu/~tongt/camry/07/index.html
If you read the "Audio & Visual System" section (page AV-18 ), the manual suggests that the AUXO should be grounded.
If anyone can make this work, please let us know.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I looked at your Camry docs and the pinouts match the tC docs exactly. I agree that grounding the AUXO pin should enable the aux inputs. Don't know what we are missing. Hopefully someone else has solved this and can give us some help.

Pictures?? sorry I don't have free space on the internet.
The 07 camry manaul also tells you some secret command to enter the diagnostic mode. It works on the scion radio too.
1. turn key to acc
2. turn off heatunit
3. press and hold "1" and "6", then press "DISC" 3 times.
then you are in diagnostic mode

I tried the diagnostics mode on the tC HU and was able to bring up the AUX test function as described in the Camry docs. Mine just shows 'AUX --' which says the HU doesn't detect an aux source connected, according to the docs.
Still stumped...
