For $250 you can get a 10" Fi Q. It will take 1000 watts and will probably beat the snot out of any 2 you could get for $250.

There's also TC Sounds which makes really good subs at good prices. They produce OEM subs as well.

for that budget you could get 12" Fi ssd and a hifonics 1206d amp....or could get a kicker zx750.1 which most are benched at doing around 900rms...
and keeshwah, i dont think tc sounds sells anymore online, they may have a few subs left but they are moving to selling in stores only i believe under their new name audiopulse....

I say 2 AA Assassin 12's...$240 total, after that amp is your choice. You'll need something good for about 600w RMS. a 12" Fi Q or SSD is good, but the problem is, it wont move as much air as 2 12" assassins and a single Fi will require about TWICE the power as 2 AA's. Budget wise it works out better this way. Now, if you raise you budget, then Q's are awesome, but you'll be lookin at a lil over $500 for the pair, and then you're gonna need to find a way to get 2500 watts into your car. well maybe you get those 2500 watts in there....next problem...your charging system....you're gonna need to do Big 3, a new Battery, and preferably a new alternator to handle all that current.
keeshwah mentioned type r's and a US Amps for them. sry but that just doesnt make any sense. if you wanna use a US Amps, get some better subs. on a type r you'll NEVER hear the difference between a US Amps and your basic RF, Infinity, or Alpine amp. whereas the type r's are ok for budget subs, a US Amps just kills the entire idea of being on a budget.
TC Sounds makes good subs. that's where my glory for that company ends. Be prepared to deal with the worst customer service department in the history of the world. Be prepared to pay $700 bucks for a sub thats no better than a lot of other stuff, simply because the new president of the company thinks that "TC Sounds makes the BEST subs in the world. No one can beat us."
Frankly I'm just plain sick of dealing with their ****. Their new name is Audiopulse, they're not worth the money, and there's better stuff out there. Stay away from them.
If you want TC Sounds stuff, buy from Soundsplinter. Soundsplinter rebadges the same damn subs for their own use, except their prices are the old TC prices...meaning a heck of a lot better than the Audiopulse stuff, and their customer service department is pretty darn good.
There's lots of brands out there today. This is just a rough start. Good luck with your search. If i can be of any assistance, PM me.

oh i do, my fi q is only getting 250 watts right now. only needs a little more. but when ppl say they want 2 subs, that to me says they just want loud and an fi q at 1000watts would be plenty loud.
im gonna go with the blaupunkt a set of them along with this sub..

If you want two great subs and aren't worried about price then I would go with two 10" Rockford Fosgate T2's they are mad deep...I'm telling you....you won't be dissapointed with them at all...it's gonna cost but subs and amp are like everything else in this world...you get what you pay for...and two 10s are gonna rock that car if you go with T2's...
