- pull it off..
- place needle slightly above.. push in slightly... push downwards towards the right spot... feel the bump stop (end of the motor)
- align with the right spot...
- push needle in (don't push the needle in too far... it's bad.. and probably what you did)

Instructions that I followed for getting my needles back on:
- Place the needle back on the post half-tight with the needle halfway in the gauge range (so you can still turn the needle past the end of the stop)
- Rotate the needle back until you're over the stop point:
+-Tachometer and speedometer: turn counterclockwise until directly over the zero mark
+-Fuel: turn clockwise until the "bottom" of the needle (right edge, which is the leading edge in the turning direction) meets the bottom of the "fuel empty" LED circle
+-Coolant temp: turn counterclockwise until the "bottom" of the needle (left edge, which is the leading edge in the turning direction) meets the top of the "thermometer" icon.
- Push down on the needle without rotating it (or perhaps with rotating it away from the stop [CW for speedo, temp, and tach, CCW for fuel]).
- Plug in the gauge cluster and test.
The gauges where the needle calibration is most important are the easiest ones to do (speedometer and tachometer; they both have a hard stop at 0).

sorry to resurrect such an old but i noticed that on the black "stem" of the needles, there looks to be a groove/line about 3/4 of the way toward the top.... Should this be aligned with the gauge face or is it just meaningless?
Thank you, i did try searching for a more detailed description of calibrating the needles, but could not find anything.... So i apologize if this is a repeat
PS- currently im only having problem with calibrating the fuel gauge needle..... When shutting off the car, it does not want to return back to it original postition, but it continues to turn counterclockwise, past the "full" mark and bump into the temperature gauge needle....... HELP this noob please! lol
thanks again
