New Box Design
http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/4/462571.html
This box was designed and will be built by Phil Salisbury, aka Woodlawn Cabinetry. Info on the box can be found on the link above with pictures of what it will look like. Just wanted to throw this out there for everyone who might be looking for a box. This is pretty much going to take up the entire trunk except for like 1 3/8" on each side on the trunk leaving just enough room to mount the amps. Should be a nice build and I'll post pics when Phil finishes the box (probably will be about mid-June when I pay him so pics about that time frame). If anyone wants to email him and talk to him about a design like this for their TC, you can contact him at http://www.woodlawncabinetry.com/. Shoot him an email and talk to him about "Yanks" box for his TC and he'll know what your talking about.
Any comments on the box?
BTW, its designed for a 15" SI Mag. 3.5cuft tuned to 30hz.

so far into testing, firing sub and port forward is the 2nd loudest type of install i've tested. I still have about 7 more designs to try out but just a little advise for ya-
Make sure that when firing forward that you attempt to seal as much volume left in the cargo area behind the sub\ports as possible. The more volume you seal up behind them, the louder you will gain!
So far, just doing tests using a 100w amp(low power can detect changes easier than high power), you can gain as much as 1.6Db and this was found just outputting 5.8 watts of power by comparing not sealing vs sealing(not 100% but better than none at all).
Also, testing has shown that the tC has some trouble in the 32-33hz range. it will not be audible but it will be noticeable on a mic.
Using a sealed box, output drops 0.8-1.0Db at 32hz then resumes output as normal fully at 34hz with same Db level as 31hz and below with a slow gradual roll off typical of sealed designs.
All ported designs(over 10) except for 2 also did this in the same range so it is a problem with the design of the car itself.
The best design so far is firing sub and port back with box 11" from hatch door. Sub on driver's side, port on passenger side. Very efficient design.
I still have to test sub up port back\side(s)\forward, etc... but so far, was able to do 122.7db with less than 50 watts of power.
All suggestions are for daily driving. These scores are metered at the right hand side of the driver's headrest with meter resting on right hand shoulder of seat facing passenger head rest.

Thanks for the info Shizzzon. I'm guessing your the one who did the tests on the tC over on SSA, correct? Good work on it.
I got the sub metered how it is now, large sealed facing up, and did a 135.0 at 41hz....not great but not worried about a number. Just going for a great sounding system that has a little kick to it.

i like keeping records of all my stereo setup tests i do so when i do something different in a different vehicle, i have something to go by.
Yes i am over at SSA WAY more than i am here.
If you don't mind me asking, what amp were you using and where did they place the mic?(and what mic was it?)
The mic i have is more strict than the termlab mic so all the test results i post are suppose to be worse than what you would read on termlab mic. So, someone could f-up the install and still get decent score, hehe.
i am suppose to have everything for my new setup installed by beginning of May.
Not saying i will but that is goal.
I got some more tests to do but am not far away from being done with tests.
This box i gotta build, this test box, hehe, it's gonna have ports everywhere, on every wall(except floor). They will all be plugged so i can test one at a time and all be tuned differently so i can test different peaks of ported boxes as well.
That's gonna be the grand test result that's gonna be in a couple weeks from now.

Right now, I'm using a Hifonics 1206d but I'll be replacing that with a Mmats1100.1. Then I'll replace my comps and my comp amp probably with Diamond HEX S600s comps and Mmats SQ-275 amp.
We used a TL placed on the windshield on the passenger side. Doors shut, windows up, engine on.

for it being sealed and with that amp, i don't see any problems with that score.
If you wanna gain some output-
keep sunroof closed at all times
crack driver side window about 1\2-3\4"
roll down passenger side window to where the back of the window is only about 1.5-2" up.(the front part of the window will be inside the door.)

Yea I mean I'm not upset with the score, just one of those moments where you wish for something that just isn't there lol. But like I said, I'm not going for an impressive number with this set-up. Would have gone with different stuff if I was.
