Default New Speakers, will they fit?

Hey guys, I'm new here, but I've used the site for reference several times in the past. Anyway, I've been looking to improve the sound of my tC slowly but surely and the next step for me is to upgrade the stock speakers to some nice Polk dB's (they're right up my alley for price range). My question is, will Polk db6501's and db651's fit in the door and mid panel, respectively, with the proper spacer/bracker without much modification?

I ask because Crutchfield's vehicle adviser says no to both, and wants me to user db 6500's in the rear and db5250's up front, but CircuitCity's vehicle adviser said 6501's and 651's were the best fit. And I'd REALLY like to go with the 6501's here because Polk added a tweeter defeat on them due to how bright the previous 6500's were.

Anywho, just wondering if any of you guys had some personal experience in this? I'm also not entirely sure if I'll be installing these. I want to go with 6.5" components up front, 6.5" coax's in the back and an Infinity 475a (75w x 4channel) to power them, and I'm not sure I can handle all that wiring without screwing something up... I thought if I went to Circuit City, sure I'd pay $140 for install, but it's backed if something goes wrong...

I dunno, first thing is first, will they fit?

Thanks in advance!

6.5 in the front and 5 1/4 in the back, you can add a spacer in the back to make it fit a 6.5 without hitting the speaker grill. i have those db's in my old honda and i liked the way they sound just don't over power them alot unless you have warranty to exchange them.

Hmm... I was going to go with these spacers/brackets: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=014

Will they allow me to put a 6.5" in the back? I could just go with a 5.25, but I haven't found a Polk 5.25" coaxial and I was trying to keep it Polk db's all around...

Plus the guy at CC said a 651 would fit, but who knows if he's right...

i would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend these speakers to everyone...CDT Audio EF-61FG's

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3341

they're at an awsome price right now. I have the 2005 version and love them soo much! it sounds so clear and crisp. Do you plan on adding a sub with the components? You can buy those MDF brackets from Elemental Designs for the fronts and id only recommend the fronts because its pointless for the rears. The stock speakers arent that bad anyways.

So are you saying to just leave the rear speakers stock and only replace the fronts? That would save me money, but I'd be afraid to blow the rear speakers if I hooked up a 75w amp to them, they're only 20w RMS I thought... Would I get any sound improvement by replacing them?

And wow, are those speakers really that good? I can't imagine a $500 speaker set... And do they come with the crossovers and tweeters?

Thanks, by the way

leave the rear speakers stock and let the HU power them. They'll get enough juice and they wont blow. I actually have mine fadded about +5 to the fronts so i can really turn them up without having the rear sound crappy. Those CDT components come with a pair of midbass speakers, a pair of tweeters and a pair of xovers. I would honestly jump on them. Woofersetc.com is an authorized dealer so it comes with warranty. They're at an Awsome price with FREE SHIPPING! It cant get any better.

Do you plan on putting in a sub with your audio?

Wow... I never really though of just leaving the rears, but I might after all. And yes I do play on eventually getting a sub. I've been looking at a Fosgate P2 12" because I'm not really big on just huge, overpowering bass. I like it crisp and punchy for rock and the occasional rap. But I won't be getting into a sub for a while, probably not until this coming summer since I'm a college student with limited fundssssss, yuck.

How difficult will it be to install the front speakers and use a 2-channel amp to power them?

And now that I think about it, this Infinity amp I wanted allowed for 2 channels to be bridged to 180w, which would be perfect for my sub... I could get away with just one amp

@Acid, I wasn't really planning on putting components in the rear... that's kind of pointless isn't it? Not to mention it would involve cutting a hole in my panels

just get a good set of fronts on a nice bug amp and use the deck to power the rears. you will need to make or buy a spacer for the front door speakers like these...

i would also recommend eventually deadening and sealing the doors like this...

Hmm... I'm liking the idea of only replacing the fronts, seems doable for a DIY job now. Where do you guys mount your crossovers though? Is there sufficient room in the door to secure them?

What is it that makes those CDT's that great? Both the sensitivity and the frequency response are lesser than that of the Polk's... Sure the RMS is 40w higher, but is there something I'm missing...

I guess I'll just look for a review online of the CDT's, I've just never heard of them before.... Sorry for doubting you at all Yanki, I just want the best bang for buck.

i never heard of them before i bought them aswell. I always were sold on Alpine, Pioneer and all the other Best Buy stuff. I heard about CDT on here. A couple of members had them and said they really liked them. I did some research about them online and found alot of people actually liked them. I like them becuase they focus on speakers itself. Do some research and im sure you'll love them aswell.

if you want the best bang for your buck seriously research the Phoenix Gold RSD comps. they are $87 shipped on ebay and they sound amazing, and i'm not the only one who thinks so. do a search on some big name car audio forums. CA&E magazine also spoke very highly of them as well.
