Default New System Build..BUILD TOTALLY COMPLETE! 9/20

Alright I need some opinions. SL is great at giving them.

I have my system for sale, and thought maybe a rebuild would make me keep it.

So I went and bought some MDF today and while the wife was at work, I got to it.

I went with a rectangualr box built exactly to specs for sealed type Rs.
Now I have some options.

1. Do I build it with the box standing up, subs facing into the car with the amps on the rear of it?
I would build the amps into the back of the box and have the amps completely enclised with plexiglass showing them.

benefits: I still have some trunk space. Still have a spare tire. And the system comes out as one peace.

drawbacks: Not much show to it all.

2. Do I build it with the subs facing the back of the trunk with the amps pretty much out of site. Either on the back side of the box, or with 2 on the sides, and the third hidden?

3. Do I build it down into the wheel well with the subs up, 3 amps sunk in front with a cover over it all. Obviously that cover for the amps was from my last build. its just to show the idea. Or I can put the amps in towards the car with the subs in the back.

Pros: Good show to it. Possible sound better.
Cons: NO SPARE TIRE. Hard to take out.

4. And here is what it looked like before tearing it apart this morning:

If you are gonna lose your trunk space anyways... why not try ported? I think you will be happier with the sound.

BTW, I voted for number 3. Your car looks great... don't skimp on the trunk!!

Im not a huge fan of parted boxes. For these subs, the box would be over 3 cubic feet. And the sound is more for max SPL at a tuned frequency. I like having tight base at all frequencys.

With the stuff I have done to my car, people automatically would assume there is bump in the trunk, so that isnt to much of an issue. Plus living on base, its safe at night. But I have thought about that when deciding where I park when not at home.

i love subs and have them for show. i really don't like any of those lol. the best is 3 and thats way to close to what you have now. if you don't like the way it sounds maybe its time to get some different subs (i don't like type r's)

I have always been of a fan of designs that dont take up much room.

So I like the picture #6...also I think your old box is nice.

I never spoke of not liking how they sound. I am EXTREMELY happy with my type Rs. They hit hard, clean and efficient. Only thing I do dislike is their extreme mounting depth because of the huge magnets.

I really want to change everything up, but I need to sell what I have. I want smaller subs so it can all be under the floor.

Why are you thinking about getting rid of them? I need at least one sub to fully reproduce music. If you don't care about the low end sound, get rid of them. If you still want some bass, is it more important for a spare tire or to look good? I really have no opinion on this though. Amps mounted to a portable box will allow access to spare tire. glassed box with flush amps looks hella cool. It all depends on what you want. On a side note regarding porting, if you tune low (25-28hz) you'll have nice sounding all around bass that will rumble. If you tune higher (35-40hz) you'll have crazy SPL (a little sloppy though). I like sealed boxes for saving space and the tight bass, i love ported for low rumbles.

Im thinking about getting rid of them to get my trunk space back.

I can mount 4 ED shallow mount 10"s under the carpet and still have my entire trunk. Wont sound as good, but when uncovered it would be some amazing show. 4 10's 3 amps all sunk in looks sexy.

I am more into tight base of a sealed box. Not over all rumble during a song. I want crisp clean notes through the whole range up to 80HZ.

Porting isn't always for SPL, it can also be used to give the subs a flatter response over the entire frequency range by boosting lower frequencies (30hz and down).

yeah it SHOULD be super clean

Not sure if I should put a window to see them or not. it looks so perfect now. but not being able to see the amps might kill the show side of it. I wonder if i can cut plexiglass perfect?

Ok I will be the spoiler. Im not diggin the uneven deck around the amps or the wrinkles. This install is obviously for show so I would expect it to be top notch. That deck install gives it a rushed appearance.
