Newbie car audio questions
Okay, here's my situation. I'm totally unhappy with the factory speakers in my car.. big surprise there. I ordered the Bazooka subwoofer and I'm going to be installing it myself... shouldn't be too bad as I've already taken the entire interior apart on my car. I realize the bazooka isn't the best audio solution but I like the simplicity and the fact that it will fit nicely.
My friend tells me the backseat won't matter all that much.. so I ordered some Infinity 5002i Reference Series 5 1/4 inch speakers. From what I've read on the forum this should be an easy installation.
But my question is what about for the front speakers. I went to crutchfield and they told me I need 5.25" for the front... which doesn't make a lot of sense since everyone on this forum is saying 6.5"... so I would assume crutchfield is wrong.
I ordered Infinity Kappa 50.7CS 5.25" component speakers for the front... before I found that out. So here comes my questions: Are these speakers going to fit good? Should I cancel my order and go for some 6.5" infinity speakers instead? Would 6.5" speakers fit after I rivet out the old speakers without a bracket?
I'm going to be driving these speakers with the factory amp until I get some money saved up.. and they are rated at 2 ohm impedance.. is this going to work out okay?

The stock speakers are fine. I'd return all of that stuff, including the bazooka sub, and get a different HU.
The problem with the sound quality is that the amp on the factory HU is low powered. Plus SSP sucks.
If you're gonna stay with the factory HU, I say switch your SSP mode to xA for a richer sound.

here's my 2 cents.......
I replaced the HU with an Eclipse and an Eclipse 4ch amp (85x4). I'm pushing the stock front speakers and they sound really good. I was afraid 85w would be too much but as long as you have your x-over set correctly and the gain on the amp low, you will be pleased. i don't know anything about the bazooka sub, it should sound ok but i agree with krdshrk. Put the money in a decent HU that will allow you to control eq and x-over.
There are several good brands out there......Clarion has some really nice HU's out for this year with color display and they can be had for a really good price. Eclipse has a redisigned model out this year in the 200-300 price range and you can check them both out on crutchfields site.
I'm not saying the stock speakers are the best.....far from it. But, they are decent and can take a lot of power if it's setup right. Now, the rears are a diff story. I currently have everything faded up front and i'm using a 10" sub in the rear in a sealed box.
if you decide to go with just a HU for now i would go with at least a mid level model from either Kenwood, Alpine, Clarion or eclipse. The reason being is that IMO they have better internal amps than other brands. Again, this is just my opinion. I've been into car audio for a long time and i've owned just about every hu on the market so i feel i have some solid experience in this area.
good luck in your decision.
