Default Newbie needs some help with sub/amp info

Hey all! I'm new here and just purchased a 07' tC a few weeks ago.

I'm completely clueless when it comes to car audio and have been attempting to absorb as much information as possible with little success haha.

I plan on buying two 10'' Alpine Type-R subwoofers. But I'm not sure if I should go with the 1042D or 1022D model? Plan on powering them through one amp. I was told to go with the 1022s if I decide to go with one amp.

Secondly, any recommendations on an amp to power both? I'm confused how much power I will need as well.

Thanks in advance,
Jarrod

I believe the difference between the 2 is that one is 4ohms and one is 2 ohms.

The one that you need depends on how youre planning to wire them up. 10" subs cant take much watts. I know my eD slim 10" takes like 250w.

Check alpines website to see what they recommend as for wattage then start looking for an amp.

Are you planning to redo your headunit as well? Possibly run components? You might want to look into a 5 channel amp or 4 channel amp depending on how you want to power your rears.

Yeah, the 1042d is 4ohms and the 1022d is 2ohms. I really don't know what that means though haha.

The ratings are as follows:
Max RMS Power Capacity: 500W
Peak Power Capacity: 1500W

So, I assume I need a 1000W amp since I plan on running two? Any suggestions?

I wasn't really planning on re-doing my headunit yet because I'm a broke college kid

Thanks,
Jarrod

Best bet is get the 2 ohm amp and take it to best-buy to have them install and wire it up for you if you don't know what you're doing.

Thanks for the advice, that's exactly what I was planning on doing. I just don't want to buy my subs and amp from Best Buy and pay double to triple what I would compared to the online.

Before you make the leap, be sure to check what Ohm voicecoils the subs are. This can make wiring easier and sound quality better but either way, you'll be bumping some bass pretty soon! You can always check crutchfield.com for wiring schematics between amplifiers and subs to see how to obtain certain desired Ohm loads.

If you get an amp get around 1200 Watts RMS. Its always safer to have a lil more head room on the amp over the subs. That way you dont overheat the amp and wear it out sooner. But if your taking it to best buy they will know how to hook it up depending on what ohmic value the subs are.

here is a link to help if your wondering how they will hook it up. Just enter what equipment you have.

Thanks for the help guys! Now I'm just in need of a box or some type of enclosure for the subs. I hate the traditional rectangle wood box look haha.

I really like this design (a little too pricey in my opinion at over $200 each though)

Any other similar suggestions at a lower price point?

Pull apart your instrument cluster and HVAC panel to the circuit board and solder about 50 LED's on said circuit boards that are smaller than lincolns head on a penny. Then be super careful with vinyl to apply to the back of the faceplates. Then use a razor blade and super glue to take apart, scrape, and repaint your needles lol. Or, you could send them off to Sean at ledmod.com to have done for you. Call him up with any questions and he'd be glad to explain everything to you. Super nice guy and very good business he's running there.
