Default Newbie sub question - elemental designs or not?

Current setup: 05 stock TC head unit, MTX 12 inch sub in a box, MTX amp powering the front speakers (Alpine) and the Sub, stock rear speakers.

Current feeling on sub sound: Good but can tend to be a bit overpowering and muddy at times would prefer it be a bit tighter.

Goal: free up trunk space, have some tighter bass and not spend a fortune.

Question: Is the Elemental Designs stealth setup with the 10 that I have been reading about on here the way to go? From peoples experience, how would it compare to what I already have?

I don't want to hear - get rid of the MTX Amp and buy a different amp. I'm not interested in buying a new amp. I just want to know if this is going to give me the best bang for my buck.

BTW: I'm 33, don't need to be heard down the block, just like some real sounding bass to round out what I'm listening to which is everything from Tool to Pearl Jam to Buddy Guy to some rap.

Thanks all in advance for your help in pointing me in the right direction.

Paul

I dont think its worth it..not exactly the best bang for your buck. The quality is decent but not my cup of tea. You might want to delete your spare wheel and have the 12 inch sub mounted flat.

Thank you for the feedback. Have you heard the 10 with this setup?

yea doesnt sound too good..but maybe its because the guy I heard it from didnt have it tuned. If you want additional feedback from people who actually have it, there are plenty of threads on the elemental stealth sub. However just make sure you know that the response from the owners might be somewhat bias. IMO if you wanna save space and have a clean sound, just get the oem 6 inch sub.

I have the ED stealth and like it a lot. I have a Avic D3 head unit and it took a little messing adjusting to get it sounding right. It is a great sub if you want some clean extra bass to your sound system, it is horrible if you are looking to rattle your trunk and show off at shows.

Like I said, I'm not looking to rattle the trunk, just looking to add some tight clean bass.

I had it and liked it,but was not loud enough to keep up with the rest of the system.....you could try for about the same money as it the ED 10" sub 11kv.2 and a sealed box and it would sound really good.

The Sq10 just wont cut it. Get the 11kv.2 or 11ov.2

Well I have the OEM 6 inch sub in my new 08 tC... I was running a custom enclosed 12 and amp in my other tC.... and it hit nice and hard...but the one thing that was annoying was that I never had use of the trunk space...and if I were to get a flat tire somewhere....it would've been a PITA to move it to get to the spare.

I have mine tuned/ dialed in the way I like it with the OEM 6 inch sub. And it sounds pretty decent.... it can no way compare to the sound that I had before...but for me it sounds decent AND I dont have to give up any of my trunk space or access to the spare if/when needed. So to me...I think it's a decent trade-off.
And like the guy that started this thread...Im 36 and I like decent good sound but don't want to be able to hear the system half way down the block.

Oh and also, I've got the 6 inch and the rest of the system dialed in so that it's pretty clean as well.
Honestly...just IMO.... I don't know as though the volume of sound or the deepness of the bass in a 10 would be worth spending as much as they get for the "stealth" ones. I mean will there be more bass and volume from a 10 over the 6?....well of course...but if you already have the 6....is spending that kind of cash for a stealth 10? IDK
But in the end...it's all personal preference...that's just my 2 cents.

i had a JL Audio 10w6 and wanted to free up space and weight in the rear. I went with the 11kv.2 and it actually sounds better than my JL. i wanted the SQ10 to free up even more space and weight but decided not to because i didnt think it would sound as clean or powerfull as my 11kv.2. Its a decent sub and i dont get crazy with trunk rattling bass. just something for a little kick. I think the SQ10 will give you something like that but no potential to raise up the volume? I love my sub...

instead of the sq 10, i think you can get a Pioneer TS series sub. Its just the right depth. I think someone on this forum ran it with the ED stealth enclosure. Its sure better than the sq10

btw, Yanki01, wut happend to your rear head rests?! lol

That's retarded."W7's" and "best bang for the buck" should never be mentioned in the same sentence.....ever.

As for the OP, take a look into the new Stereo Integrity Mag V4. It is a shallow mount sub (5.5" deep) and only requires a 1 cuft sealed box. Efficient subwoofer with the xbl^2 motor that will have great SQ and still enough output for your liking I think.

Again, sorry: I'm a newbie who isn't terribly technically adept when it comes to car stereos. Are you saying the Mag V4 would mount like discretely somewhere?

I was joking, he wants something that saves space while still providing a clean and deep sound. Any who, I mentioned the W7's because they are one of the best subs you can get out there. However its not what he is looking for because its big and you can here it from a mile away.

OP- to answer your question...it wouldn't make a difference. I don't have any experience with MTX but from what I've read they are decent stuff. They are both budget subs...no point in spending more money.
Since you admit your a newb, my advice is learn more about install and do it right....proper installation is very important. And by the way, going from MTX to Elemental Designs is not much of an upgrade...lol
