I have Rainbow SLC's in the front, no rear fill, and an ID12 in the hatch, and I must say it sounds nice without the rear speakers.

For sound quality you don't need rear speakers.

Many SQ cars have no rear fill. I prefer to have some rear fill but just have the sound faded forward. Gives me the option of having a good sound stage (faded forward) while still being able to go loud (no fade) if I want. As far as I'm concerned, some music genres lend themselves better to equal forward and rear levels than others. If you are listening to techno, rap, or some harder rock, I would suggest some rear fill, if you are a hardcore SQ guy, rear fill is most likely not needed.

With all of that said, it comes down to personal preference. Just know that rear fill is by no means needed for a SQ system. My next system will definately have rear fill and a front center channel; I'm looking to do dvd-audio.

Sound is recorded to a CD in two channels. Left and Right. Unless you are playing a 5.1 disc and have a full on 5.1 setup, all that's necessary for SQ purposes is a front stage.

Some people like having rear fill as well, but from a strictly SQ standpoint...rear fill = no.
