NOOB SUB QUESTIONS
I plan on putting a 10" sub and 200-300 watt amp in my ride and my buddy is gonna hook me up with a custom enclosure. What I need to know is will my rear speakers get knocked out since the wiring will be switched (this is what I've been told). If so, is there an adapter to hook up both the sub and the rear speakers? Any other help would be greatly appreciated!!!....
I guess your using the stock HU? NO your rear speakers should not be knocked out. On my Brother tC we just bought a line out converter and you tap into the rear speakers to get the bass signal. Music will still play out of them though.
when we upgraded the audio in my wife's TC; we first were looking at the sub offered thru Toyota, but didn't like the lack of controls. So after some research, we ended up switching out the deck as well, to give us more control over the sub, without trashing the stock speakers. We put in an Eclipse deck with JL audio amp & 10" sub. The deck has crossovers so the stock speakers aren't taking the full brunt of the new deck's power--letting the sub handle the needed punch. The price seemed reasonable, & gave us good sound without too much cost, or having the car sound like a rap concert at the stoplights ( no offense to anyone who thumps like that ). I'm not a car audio expert, but if you weren't changing out the deck, then you may be limited on what you can do for a sub hookup. If you are changing the deck as well, then the right head unit should take care of any power/hook up issues.
hope that helps a bit, or at least makes a little sense.

did u want to use the stock hu? i did - just tapped into the rear speakers and used the speaker level input on my sub. it souds pretty good - dual 12 inch pioneer and 800watt amp.
Ok, other than the fact this has been covered many times, just search. But anyway you will need a line in converter, and you have two choices, you can either cut the wire from one speaker and use that in the converter or tap it, which is what you want to do so you dont lose a speaker. Btw what kind of sub and amp is it. Also i highly recommend you getting a nice headunit only about 300 bucks, and imho sounds 100 times better.
i'd also recommend a new head unit. Besides the better controls ( i'd presume many of the hu's out there will give you I-pod inputs ) for the sub, the decks will have much cleaner power to run the 6 factory speakers; again enabling the sub to handle all the low end punch you want, and the rest filling in nicely. We ended up in the 700 range for deck, amp, and sub. I'm sure there are plenty of cars out there that would out power us, but for the music we listen to ( don't let my age fool you ) ours can pound plenty.
We also were able to get the installer to keep the deck cover in place, helping to "hide" what we have in there.

If you want the best SQ you'll get from a stock HU, get a JL Audio Cleensweep or an AudioControl L6(or something of the sort)....
From what I've heard, the rear speakers are attenuated from the factory....I don't know if that will affect the operation of a sub tapped into it...
You can either get a line converter or buy an amp that has Hi-Level(speaker level) inputs in addition to RCA's.... that's like having a converter built right into the amp...
