I searched but couldn't find anything about it. When the carpet comes off it looks like an all-weather type of mat. The carpet is held down by the pieces of black plastic closest to the rear. Any ideas?

They're "dual action" or something.

Take the carpet out if you're muddy...I dunno.

But yeah, they go right back in, just need to tuck it under the rubber all the way around...kind of a pain.

Is this post for real?!?
That is how they are supposed to be. All the car manufactures are doing this (honda, nissan, toyota, etc.) The carpet part is for summer use, when taken apart the underside is for winter use. This is to keep your floor mats clean all year round.
They go right back together again. it helps keep mud, sand, dirt, and snow from messing up the carpet. On the vinyl side it can just be hosed off and cleaned.

i'm actually thinking about taking the carpet out for everyday use and only putting it in when i need the interior to look nice. My right heel is starting to screw up the carpeting underneith the gas pedal

It even says on my window sticker "2in1 Carpet/All Weather Mats..."

The only the problem I have is that the dark gray dye (on the plastic and carpet) tends to come off on the heel of my light colored Jordans. I solved this problem by buying a dark gray colored t-shirt at Target for $5! My Jordans are saved!!

Yea, I took my carpet out for winter driving so I didn't get slush and sand all over my nice mats. The rubber is much easier to clean, but can get slick if you are wearing certain shoes.

I too wore a hole in the mat within the first 3 months. Scion replaced all mats at no charge. See if Scion will replace yours...

^^----- Now if he can't fix it let me know.....I only charge $50, plus a very reasonable $25 fee for return shipping. That is a savings of $25 dollars!
I think that its a fair asking price for a repair such as that.

I decided to save my stock mats, took out the black and put in some of that "get 20yrds t home depot for 4 bucks" carpet and I must say, because of the black lip around the edge, it turned out pretty good. Anyone else do this?

i think you are shooting yourself in the foot. Those profit magins are out of whack. Doing that job for that price you quoted will have you out of business in no time.

Do you realize the painstaking process and number of hours it takes to seamlessly replace the carpet to the rubber bottom? This is easily a 7 hour job, and makes the supercharger install look like a light bulb change. Plus it's a hazardous work environment that needs a considerable investment in safety gear. You think fiberglass is tough? Check out those carpet fibers...man, you could really get some nasty rug burn on this job! Thick gloves will do the trick, but you'll go through quite a few. and don't forget it could be a very dirty & dusty environment, I mean who knows what he's been stepping in...full respiration gear would be in order. In fact, better get a full Hazmat suit while you're at it.

hm...I dunno. I think you have far worse problems than the carpet separating from the mat - Not the least of which, is the fact that the shape of texas has been subliminally hidden in your mat.

i think you've been had.
