Default OEM Head unit install

Does anyone know what's needed to install the OEM head unit into another car? My Dad doesn't have a CD player in his car so he's trying to swap my old deck into his car.
I made the mistake of getting ripped off by best buy to install my deck, and upon inspecting the back of my old unit, it appeared to be nothing more than a couple of wires/plugs plugging into the back. So what I'm wondering is what/where I can find those wires and/or if they're different for every car.

go to your local autozone or pepboys and ask for the harnes that belongs to the make and model for your dad's car.
