Default OEM Navigation System DVD Player Error

Ever since I bought my car and navigation unit used, it's been giving me an error every time I put in a movie DVD. The GPS navigation DVD works when put in, but when I put in a movie DVD it gives an error that says that it can't read the video on the DVD, but the sound plays. There's just no video.

I've been lazy to try to fix this, but I think I would like to play movies in my car. That'd be badass.

Can't drive and watch movies at the same time. The E-Brake has to be on for the video to be displayed.

Tried the E-Brake. It still does not work. It just gives an error that says Map DVD at the top. It says in an error message on it. Unable to read data. Check if map DVD is correct.

I'm pretty sure the nav system is able to play DVDs. I'm actually pretty positive, but I still don't know how to make it work so I can play DVDs.

if ur willing to give up $100 to bypass the stereo you can watch video whenever, but if you dont have it bypassed normally you have to do more then pull up the handbrake. Usually you have to put in the brake, pull up the handbrake all the way and it all the way down twice, then pull it back up if you are staying in park and it should work.

Oh really? Okay, i'll give that a try later. But the error that comes up is:

"Unable to read data. Check if map DVD is correct."

It then continues on to the DVD screen and plays the sound of the DVD, but not the video at all.

Idk about that error message, it may be a different message for different brands of head unit, but that error message sounds like it may b a bad deck, but at the same time, if u didnt do the hand brake sequence properly it does play the music still but no video with the error message, so im not sure which it is.
Try the sequence i told u and see if it works and if it doesnt it might b ur deck:/

I havent been out to the car yet. But what might be the problem is that it might not be wired to the handbrake.

Because the person that I bought it from told me that i needed to buy a cable for the nav system for the video to work, but i didnt really worry about it too much since I never planned on watchign movies in my car.

Since you brought it used, maybe all the wiring is not connect such as the ebrake wiring. Certain function won't operate unless that ebrake/park/brake/ign/or whatever wire is hooked up correctly.

oh never mind, you just answer your own question.
