I'm just wondering what the differences are between the two....i know the D2 is the 06 model but is there any significant changes??

 

Maps.

I think that's pretty much the only major change...

and it STILL doesn't play DVD's..... GRRRR....

 

can those just be updated by getting the newer versions of the DVDs?

 

yes.

 

There isnt much of a difference on the maps. I have the D1 and the updated maps - the only nice thing with the map update is that it now tells you what lane to get in on the highway when you exit. If you really want DVD, you can hook up any DVD player to it ... ie: PS2 Slim.
