So as many of us know..the ones that one the Avic-F Series.
These units have software problems eventually.
I was wondering if anyone out there knows the process of reloading software/ loading firmware 3.0/ and or getting into test mode?
I began to follow this link:
http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=25817
I got as far as loading the WinCE files.
I typed in the password to get into test mode.
Now I reset the unit..inserted my SD card with test mode files on it..and after the Pioneer load screen..the screen goes black again..and none of the buttons will light up.
Ack..i know you have some experience with this.
Chime in if you can help me out.
Anyone else too.

So it completed the CE update... and then said to restart and that's when you tried to go to Test Mode and it froze up?
Can you tell if it is still "on" or not? Like here any fans running or anything? Have you tried to get the 2.0 update from Pioneer and install that again? And yes, you'd need an SD card for it.

I had a similar problem to the "black screen" a while back and reinstalled 2.0 and went from there.

As far as I know I completed the CE update.
It went to 100%, and told me to restart the unit.
So I did..
Then, to my knowledge, I attempted to go into Test Mode, I think I did it right?
No positive.
Then it goes through the Pioneer start-up screen, and then the screen goes black, including the buttons.
There are fans running, yes.
I'm still able to get to the blue screen, btw
I guess I'm trying to get WinCE to open up, so it looks like a desktop.
And yes, I did find an SD card, lol.

So the issue I had would let me start to get to Test Mode but would then just go black a few seconds into Test Mode. I could do nothing. The 2.0 reload at least let me get back into Test Mode completely where I could copy/paste my backup stuff and it was good again.
Basically just download that update from Pioneer and start from scratch with their instructions.

Ya, this should theoretically get it "working" and then you can go from there hopefully being able to continue those other instructions or leave it alone.
I hadn't actually looked through those instructions yet. I broke down last month and ordered the official 3.0 update for the $60. Still hasn't shipped yet though.
I'd just like the newest maps if anything - so I can understand the $$ for it.

Damn..well the instructions don't seem all that difficult.
I read through some of them.
Sucks you dumped the money into Pioneer.
I personally don't plan on buying anymore products from them in the future.

New sitiation.
I installed 2.06 on my unit.
The unit will load to the point of Pioneer start up screen..then I have to hit menu to get to the main menu.
Once I get there..i can only go to settings.
No other function will work.
And bad news..because I bypassed the parking brake on install..it's not covered under warranty anymore..SO I need to get this fixed without sending it in.
Please help..anyone?

You should be able to argue with them about the warranty thing... the bypass has no affect on the actual software - or tell them you reversed it.
Can you get to Test Mode now though? You may just need to start from scratch. If you want to do that, I can probably upload the full set of original files on the system. Would just have to do it from work since it would take FOREVER here at home.
So you'd copy all of the default stuff to an SD card, boot to Test Mode, delete what is on the system drive and then copy all of the default stuff to it.

No..I'm not able to get Win to load up.
I can get to the blue screen, but no further than that.
I want to just start from scratch.
I wish I knew how to.
I just want to flash the whole software back to when I first got it.

Here's all you need for Test Mode:
http://downloads.allankintz.com/TestMode.zip
Extract the two folders from that zip file and put them into the root of an SD card. Then just boot to it. That is the actual Test Mode.
Try that and see if you can boot to it. Don't do anything yet... but just see if it works and let me know.

Well..I'm sitting here watching the head unit.
I let it sit for awhile..and it rebooted itself..and it's back to the pioneer screen.
Still sitting here.
Been a few minutes.

Strange... so with those two folders on the SD card, just put it in and turn the car on. It should (theoretically) boot to the Test Mode...
That is unless the update from the "blue screen" changed something like that... if that's not working then I'm kind of stuck. You may need to start a new thread on avic411 and explain everything you've tried so far and see if anyone else can come up with some other suggestions... if you haven't already, that is.
