Default pop noise when turning hids on

hi, i've been having this issue since i replaced hu (I think). Everytime I turn my

lowbeam on (HIDs) I hear a pop noise from my speakers. Sometimes it's not loud,

but most of time it is really loud. It has been few months but I just ignored it but now i

feel kinda scary that this might cause other problems. Does anyone know why this

happens and how to fix?

Also recently, my driver side front speaker (stock) started to acting crazy. It

sometimes makes pop noise when my bass hits but sometimes it works fine. Today

the speaker didn't make any sound for few minutes and now it works again. I don't

know if these two issues are related. Any idea?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

it can be ur amp, ur grounding point for ur hu and amp...it could be the rca cables being of cheap quality too and where it is ran...

i let u know if i find out anything tomr.

you know why jin? cause your car knows you have too much money and its trying to make you bankrupt.. first the HVAC and now this..

it might be the electrical interference from the ignitor.. but i gotta see it to know.. you going to the meet?

What kind of HU did you put in?... Also, are you running external amps?... You may need to install a noise suppressor (Power Filter) on your HU's main power wires to try and filter that "pop" out when you turn your lights on... As for your speaker, it may be blown from your description (or your overdriving it) but since you said it makes sound and sometimes doesn't it could also be a loose connection...

I do EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) testing for a living, a lot of these "companies" that makes these HID ballests don't do any testing what so ever to minimize the disturbances to other electrical components ... This is why the FCC and CE marks you see on electronics are so important ...

Yah, you say you'll be at starbucks tonight but we've heard that many times before!! =P Are your door speakers wired to an amp? I remember I used to get the popping sound when I turned on my HIDs with my Pioneer D3, but I don't get that with my Kenwood. I don't know if the popping sound was from the sub or door speakers though... maybe from both?

thx blackmetal, well I had eclipse cd3100 before (had this issue too) and changed to pioneer avic d3 and it didn't go away. And yes I have a kicker amp and a subwoofer which i and my friend installed along with my first HU.

Hey Alan, I don't think my amp is powering my door speakers (sorry u know i'm a noob in this field) I think it's powering only my subwoofer. I don't know if the noise is coming from the sub too, but it is definately coming from both of my door speakers.

Operatic had a suggestion on another thread about HID noise to wire the ground directly to the negative battery post. See if that helps?

Did you ever find a fix for this? I installed some HID's on my tC the other day and I'm also getting that popping sound from my speakers when I turn them on at night, not all the time, but it mostly does it when I turn them on for the 1st time at night, so any help is appreciated, thank you.

Well, unless he's running the audio cable near the HID ballast, even if it was radiating I don't think it would interfere on the high-frequency component. Most likely the start-up impulse voltage is creating a power spike that then manifests itself through the amp if the amp does not have sufficient filtering on the power. Alternately, you may have a ground loop, check the ground on the amp, it should be directly to chassis, preferably on unpainted metal.

He's connected directly to the negative terminal. Mine was connected to the factory ground point behind the fr bumper. Mine went away after I got rid of the D3 and replaced it with the kenwood dnx7100.

Mine did that popping when I installed the D3.........when I attached my relay to the side post on my Optima for the HIDs and the map 0/1 wire to the regular terminal it got much less in noise,it is still there though........

It's not the radiated emissions you have to worry about in this situation, it's the conducted emissions on the power lines of the HID's... If the company didn't put any filtering (or hardly any) on the ballasts, then all the power spikes as you mentioned are leaving the unit and causing disturbance to other electrical devices in the car, audio being one of the more sensitive pieces will produce the "pop" sound from poor filtering on the ballast itself... You can try to put the DC power cables (one turn) of the HID ballasts through a 31 material Ferrite (Fair-Rite makes nice snap-on ferrites), or make/buy some power filters and install them on the ballasts...

I'm going to bring this back from the dead...because I am getting something similar.

I am getting a crackling or ALOT of interference when I turn my HID's on (none at all when they are off), when they are fully lite up. So, all I would need to do is buy some kind of power filter for my ballasts to minimize this interference? How ould i go about putting/installing this?? And can some one lead me to where I can get one of these power filters??

I am having ver similar issues with this, i am getting a 'wining' noise coming through my components (Kicker RS and KS) that match my revs, everything is grounded properly, Tried GLI's but then my GPS wouldnt work (well no voice audio, the noise was still there anyways...any info on this?
