So i have 2 12'' kenwood subs in a hugeeeee sealed box, but i was wondering if it would sound any different in a smaller ported box?

If they're in a huge sealed box because it's optimal for the sub's design, then they'll sound like total crap in a small ported enclosure, compared to the big sealed. If you don't believe it, go ahead an try it, see for yourself.

It all comes down to the Subs you use, read the specs and match the box. Some subs sound good sealed some sound good ported. Personally I would craiglist those kenwoods they blow in both senses of the matter. Honestly spend money on a good sub even running like a single 12" JL w3 will sound better and be louder than those ____ty kenwoods

 

As long as we're all on this subject, does anyone have experience with Elemental Designs' 11Ov.2 woofer?

Im currently running one of those in a .5 cft sealed box, but Ive been thinking I'd like a bit louder sound and was wondering how much of a difference it would make it I built the 1 cft vented enclosure according to ED's specs. Worth it?

Yup got 2 of them when eD had them for $75 a piece for the D4s. I was so impressed by the quality of them, they weigh more than my old 12" rockford p2s

 

yeah I ordered one the day they went on clearance for $75, its an awesome sub.

 

yea I cant wait to hear them, probably going to order one of the boxes they sell. So I want to know what is better, probably going to go with a sealed because I think the sq is alittle better.

 

yeah from what I know sealed are genearally a bit better for sq while vented are good for spl. However the boxes ED builds/provides plans for are tuned at real low at like 30hz so sq is actually really good with them.

 

hmm, I dont need anything super loud but then again you get bass addicted and want something louder than before. The vented boxes is bigger and I want to keep my trunk space so I probably just stick with the sealed.

 

my favorite set up which I actually happen to be running is 3 jl w3v3 10", ran at 1ohm on a 500/1 slash v2 black series putting 220rms to each woofer in a sealed box, slaps so hard but so clean and fast hitting
