Default Ported the subs... installed the new headunit

I bought the ports and the new headunit yesterday to replace the stock scion ipod unit which by the way sucks because most of the buttons stopped working and it took forever to get to the end of your list of songs... but now i have the alpine ida-x001 installed and it made a big difference... it sounds so much better than the old unit, looks cooler, is easier to use and so forth... also the ported subs sound much much better, they are louder and dont hit as hard... let me know what you think!

those 10's or 12's ....seems like shallow box im trying to flush mount my sub and its 6.6 inches high which pretty much makes it higher than the lining of the trunk

Cutting a hole and putting ports in, IMO would sound like crap. Looking at those ports, it looks like what 2" or 3" diameter ports??? Port noise heaven???

The subs are 12s, 300 w. The ports are tuned. Box is from quarterwave designs.

I dont care if its the mother itself that designed the box. Putting a set of "ports" into any box (that was sealed) will not sound good....

But think what you want to think

That's not necessarily true. You can get lucky when porting. 4th order boxes are still pretty flexible. The only problem porting a box blind is that you don't know what it's tuned at. Porting a small box can give you some extremely high SPL in the higher frequencies. If you want to port your box the correct way though, go download WinISD (free software), plug in your thiele-small parameters and tune it to whatever yields the curve you're looking for (max spl, smooth, low-bass, high-bass, etc).

I like the way the subs are mounted. Box looks nice. I like the head unit too. All around good job!

pretty sure the idea behind building boxes is not getting lucky if things work out. the fact is cutting holes and inserting short ports is a horrible idea.

Just as bad as this one guy I know, he has some CVRs in boxes and it looks like he just cut holes in them to insert many 2" PVC port holes. I kinda chuckled in my mind and then I showed him my port on my box which you can stick your whole arm in, he was like well your box is a competition box! LOL

idn why you all are trashing it... i dont have any port noise... until you hear my sound system dont tell me that it was a bad choice... they sound fine, i didn't just cut holes and stick some tubes in... i did research and ____ on the right size.... i went to rockford fosgate's site and got the recommended port size, AND i went to a place around here called dashworks, asked them, they told me the same things RF told me, and therefore i did it... it sounds just as good as my friend who has the same 2 12s will a normal pre-made type 2 box and they sound exactly the same

Ok you want me to get technical with you? It looks like you have 2 12" P1 subs. In a sealed box you need approx 1.02cuft of airspace PER sub. You have 2 subs so needing about 2.04cuft of air space. From the looks of your flushed box, there probably isn't 2cuft of air space....
Anyways.
You decided to port it, now this is a whole new league. For a ported box for the P1s you need 1.79cuft of airspace, and you have two subs, now it has to be a total of 3.58cuft. With a 3"x6" port to tune to 36hz. No way in hell that box is 3.58cuft. <------so that is the problem. DO you see it?
Mind you also that the cuft measurement is after sub and port displacement.

you can't tell anything from that picture... first off the box is split in half... its not all one large box, it just looks like it... and i know for a fact that there is 1.8 cuft of airspace in each because that is how i had it made. I talked to the company on the phone, they took all the dimensions i wanted, all the everything i wanted... then as they were building it they sent me pictures through my email showing me the dimensions... So fuc* off and dont act like you know all this.... i didn't post this so you could trash it.... so don't talk about it... if you don't like it then don't fuc*ing post about it... i dont want to hear your opinion. Its the way its supposed to be and only i would know, and probably the company.... not you so don't talk trash about it cause you are wrong.

If there is 1.8cuft in there per sub then shoot my box I have now must be 10cuft. Since it takes the whole trunk space w/o the spare tire.

Now I am intrigue to know how you can get a total of 3.6cuft in a flush box now.

Because what I have here:

It has 3.5cuft of airspace after sub and port displacement.

Ok tell me this one thing then, what are the dimension of your box....
