Default Is it possible...

Is it possible to somehow modify a 06+ steering wheel cover ( with radio controls) into my 05. I always wanted to have the 06+ steering wheel controls. I already have a 07 headunit. How much work would be required to make such a swap possible, or would it not be worth it? thanks.

It isnt as simple as you may think, since the wiring between the wheel and head unit is intermixed with the other harnesses rather than within one harness. You would need to pin out the wiring and create a custom harness to connect it all up.

Wouldnt be terrible if you had an 07 to work with to trace out the wiring though.

This is very possible, there was a thread somewhere that detailed how to do it but I can't find it at the moment. Basically you just need to create/connect a harness that would go from the steering wheel controls to the head unit. As engifineer said above, normally this is a part of the wiring dash wiring harness, but it goes directly to the headunit. Search around a bit and you may be able to find that thread i was talking about.

Just got about 14 inches or so here yesterday.. yay for shoveling

I had thought of finding an 07 that I could use to trace the wiring out and making harnesses for this swap... but never have gotten to borrow one to do it.

haha yeah, just got off. a couple good inchs but everything was frozen so that made it even worse. yeah i did searching and I found a write up on how to do it. Only requires 4 wires to be spliced.
