Yea, the only problem with that is simply that it is supposed to be mounted low. Otherwise, it'll never pick up laser.

You pick up laser, you're already hit.

The only fighting chance is jamming it.

Thats true, however it is better than not knowing and its still better to know and slow down than not at all. There is a chance that it didnt register the first time also.

In any case, take a look at radar roys (radarbusters) information, he explains it further

I unplug the wire, and store it in my glove box. It's not glued to my windshield or anything, it can come off the suction cup frame.

well there is a connector from the wire to the detector itself so it shouldnt be an issue.

yeah VA sucks! I'm tried of getting pulled over for...headlights, radar, exhaust, tent, ect....the list goes on. I mean yes I can just take it all off but when I enter another state most cops don't bother with the exhaust, tent and HID's. Just this past month it's been crazy. But as for the radars, when the officer pulled me over he said that it's not illegal to have but them but it is to use it in VA, ha a$$hole!

<---- Look over there

It's mounted to the driver's side of the mirror, with just enough clearance to get rear visability.

I've been through just about every radar detector brand around. Personally, I've been hapy enough with my 995, but I'd might as well have bumped up the extra $50 for a Passport. I HAVE run it side by side with a 9500, and it's near identical in performance. . . but still.

For the record, I HAVE received scatter from laser hits (allowing for advanced warning). It's rare, but it happens. FYI, most police radar's do not use a laser pointer laser beam. At longer distances, the beam is considerable in size. But I'll be picking up a M-20 Laser jammer soon anyway, just in case. A $100 non-moving violation sure beats a REAL ticket.

i didnt realize the wire going to the radar was detachable.. thought it was hardwired to the unit

9500i? I may have to investigate this! I'm sure the wifey won't mind having the 8500... :D

As for states like VA, my theory is if I had my windows tinted in Georgia, for example, where it's legal to do so, and where my car is registered, and I pass through a state where it's totally illegal, I'm not about to pull over at the state line and scrap it off my windows. it might be illegal to own a radar detector if you're a VA resident, but since I'm not, I'm not really going to worry about it. Of course, now that I said that, I'll probably get pulled over when I'm driving through VA this weekend. Just watch...
