his box looks to be < 1 cubic foot, depending on depth, right around .7 or .8 which is about right for that sub sealed btw.

This 99 dollar sub is next best to THE 9500 which is only like 750 watts. And fyi the 8500 is between them and shows how rediculas MTX is. I'm sure that headunit is great for sound quality, and the amount of shows you go to warrants wasting money on screens.

The box is one of the most important parts of a substage, so I can't see how your satisfied looking at your little box. Unless my eyes are decieving me and there is more to it. How many cubic feet is?
1.5 and .8.

what ur set up looking like?

I personally think MTX audio is crap. I wouldn't dare make that comment 4 years ago.

I have:

Kenwood DNX 7120
6.5 Polk Momo Components in the Front and Rear
Kicker 12" L7 Solobaric
Customer Built box....I forget what I tuned it to
Kicker ZX 750.1 Monoblock - Flush mounted in front of the box
Kicker ZX 650.4 4-Channel - Flush mounted on the back of the box
18 Farad Tsunami Cap

i used to have one of those boxes and it's a 1.21 cubic feet, also try using a ported box with that sub because it will sound alot better than sealed...i know because i used to have a 12" 7500. if you guys say that MTX is crap then post up what you got and let the others do the judging for you.

12" fi q with a jl 1000.1 amp in a sealed enclosure around .8 cubic feet gross i want to go ported, but it would take up too much room, i gotta get a stroller back there pretty soon

what are the dimensions on that box, mtx says that sub should have .75 cu ft sealed and about 1.45 cu ft ported. so if its sealed which it looks like it is, then its way too big. but non the less, I dont see how you are getting 1.5 cu ft outta that box

Most of MTX is crap. Some of their amps are great. I've had one for two years running it hard and its been great. Gets kinda hot sometimes but its not ventlated well. But you actually seem like someone who knows what they're talking about

I didn't really read any of the posts in this thread besides a couple and don't feel like responding now, maybe later if I get around to it

your $145 sub has a whopping 50watts more power rms. so you are not one to talk, and you have an mtx amp. and just because a box has large cubic feet doesnt make it good. its like the blind calling the deaf kid ugly around here.
there, summed up the ones that pertain to you.

btw we had an old mtx 8000 in your boat being pushed by a tiny amp in the proper sized box and it slammed in a boat, which is open air. my brother has all mtx in his g35 sedan as well including a 12"9500 with a te1501 that will blow the pants off your L5 with hype-s speakers. would i put mtx in my car? no, would i put kicker in my car? no. alpine, nope. it doesnt seem like you know very much about car audio at all, other than what they told you at best buy. so please, stop bashing others systems and worry about fixing your own.

No offense taken, I know what you're getting at.

I worked as a circuit city installed for two years prior to graduating from undergrad and going to grad school. I worked on the sales floor so I got familiar with the product before then I bought whateva sounded good when someone mentioned a product. When I went to the shop I got to be around two installers that were top in the country in terms of productivity and customer satisfaction, i.e., customers that always returned to add more to their system. I learned a ton about everything during that time so my knowledge of systems has grown significantly.

The installers I worked with were hard on MTX because they once made AWESOME products, like most companies when the begin they have top quality products, then they figure out they need to cut costs to increase profit which is what MTX did to their products. Ever pick up an MTX amp that visually looks like it should weigh a ton but grab it and its the weight of a tennis ball. Then MTX was bought by Mitek....but I digress.

Come companies have always stayed true from the beginning. JL Audio is one, Rockford is following the route of MTX, Kicker makes awesome subs and amps but anyone that buys their full range speakers are crazy, Polk while owned by DEI since 2006 has awesome full range speakers and component sets and used to have great subs, old school Alpine amps and subs are great and the sound quality that you get from an Alpine head unit are usually unmatched. Memphis is another great one.

The reason people are hard on MTX s because they were one of the original three pioneers of the car audio "revolution" and the only one that has fallen off tremendously from their peak.

At the same time MTX is not garbage; I just don't prefer it. Their return rate was through the roof. Some people live and die by MTX so to each his own. That does not go without saying every company has products in their lineup that cause problems.

I didn't mean to turn this into a history lesson as its still hard to judge someones knowledge based on what they type on a forum so once again.....I digress.

LMAO...I didn't need it but it is an awesome ground distribution block.

This is an old pic s I can no longer get to the cap without taking apart my entire trunk.

I use one distribution block for the power and the other for my ground. The absolute best way to cut back on excess wire.

Gotta love that sleeper look.

Flush mounted 4 channel

Location of rear tweeters for components.

my only advice and what ive learned recently, look at the little guys, you can save a ton of money and get a much better product. i agree with 90% of your history lesson but i am not a big kicker fan. alpine subs USED TO BE good, and i totally agree with you on the weight of mtx amps, when i swapped my 1000.1 with my buddies te1501 i was amazed with the weight.

check out http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/ and go to the forums, there is a ton of info on some of the smaller brands. the only subs i will run now are Fi I love the sound, power, and price. I havent dabbled into other amps and speakers as i got an extremely good deal on my 1000.1. but it seems like there are much better speakers for the money than the electronic/car stereo store brands (alpine, pioneer, mtx, ect.)

Touche....you'll hve to tell me about these little guys, I would love to try some of their products out. After all, no big company ever made it to where they are without being small at one point in time.

and as to your tirade; who in the last few pages has L5's? that post confused me.

ftiw, im a kicker fan boy, but i also can honestly say i dont care about SQ and im in it for SPL.
