See if you can find someone on here around your area that has a little car audio knowledge. If you just need the subs put in the box and amp mounted to, say, the box, running the power wire would be very easy to do. If you want to go so far as mounting the amp under the trunk floor then it may take some ingenuity, but is still not too hard.

In the end, it may only cost you a lunch and who knows, maybe you will make a new friend.

^Also viable is to DIY, however, I would only recommend if you have at least a little knowledge of how to run the power wire OR if you read up on it, like at www.the12volt.com. Some people think it is okay to pass the wire under the car or through door panels....not smart ideas (fire hazard).

i installed my gf's radio, amp, and sub plus all the wires in not much time a few weekends ago. it's not hard, except finding a route for the power wire through your firewall. i spent about an hour on her 4runner before the cable finally gave in and went.
find someone that's close and see if they'll help you.

yeah... DIY that ish. my system consisted of wiring in 2 subs, new components, a lineout converter, 2 amps, and running all the wire. This was my first time ever installing an audio system in a car.

wasnt hard whatsoever.

Where do you live at.....probably not close to me so thats out of the question.

So what did you end up getting?

I 2nd the motion of getting someone to DIY with instead of a chain store. I used to work at a shop doing custom installs, and when a new best buy opened up not to far away from the shop everyone thought they was a smart **** and went there to get their installs done. Next thing you know then end up coming to us to fix what best buys broke. I rather trust someone with no skills to do a DIY and read up on forums instead of letting CC or BB do the install. I would even rather pay Tweeter to do it even though they will prolly charge out the **** for it.

There's nothing wrong with running power wire under the car if it's done correctly, and there's no risk of fire when it's appropriately fused.

Do it yourself. Hardest part is pulling that garden hose of a power wire through the firewall grommet.

A fuse would keep it from starting a fire, but do you really want a wire to be exposed to everything the comes is under the car? Salt, water, rocks will wear away the cover. Even if it does not spark, and can still possibly break and drag under the car or just corrode and stop working. Then you would have to replace the ENTIRE wire, since it will happen near the middle.

It is just much cleaner and better to run the wire through the car.

Agreed. The same effort would be applied to run it inside. It would work outside, and although rubbing chances are very small (if you rub the wire, you have more serious issues at hand ) the PVC jacket would simply last longer inside.

I disagree, however, with mounting the amp to the box. One, it's a thief's lucky break, everything in one package. Two, the sub is going to rattle the electrical components inside the amp, likely to cause pre-mature failure.

To each his own, whatever makes you happy, but I still stand by what I stated, it's fine if done correctly. I've run my wire outside on several cars over the years and never had an issue, and recently wired my tC that way too.

Some subs aren't designed to work well in both sealed & vented boxes, so that's the first consideration. Regardless of the box type used, sealed or ported, it needs to have the correct internal volume/airspace for the sub to function correctly, and this size is almost always different for ported versus sealed enclosures, with the former almost always being larger. The box is very important, as the sub's performance will only be as good as the enclosure it's in.

What sub are you using?

I'm in the same situation with wanting to replace my oem speakers with better ones. I wouldn't trust any ol' Best Buy or Circuit City to rip apart my interior.

Depending on your area, check local shops. They usually have books of pictures of the work they've done. Also, see if they've had any experience doing work on tCs. And take it from there.

Don't let just any Joe Schmo work on your car.
