Default Questions on some interior lighting

I've been searching and haven't been able to find any of the answers of some questions I have...

First, if I wanted to install the LED Illumination (as they call it on the website), how much would it cost to get those lights? And how many are there? 1 under the driver and passenger front (2 lights) and once under the cup holder? Or is that that just a picture effect?

And if I wanted to change the lighting of the gauges, how much would those LEDs cost? I wouldn't think too much since they are pretty small?

Thanks!

first off you need to be a little more specific in your question. Whos site are you talking about?

anyway ill try and help despite your pieced together question.

underdash and cupholder lighting can be done many ways. It was an option for your car 250$ option using leds and acrylic tubes in the footwells and led bulbs in the cuphlders. oznium.com sells everything needed to do it with cold cathodes that are brighter and well, the whole thing will cst you like 30$ depending how you build it.

or you could go to www.randode.com like i did and buy the kit from him. Front and REAR lights all with factory wiring and switch for i think 100$

now the gauge lighting, there are about a million and a half threads on this, GO SEARCH FOR IT!
and theres even an ad at the top of the page sometimes for it!
AND alot of scionlife members have it written in their sig saying they will do it.

Thanks...I'm talking about the scion.com website.

What do you mean front and rear lights? There are rear ones too?

Yeah as for the gauge lighting I'll go search for it haha but I mean if you know off the top of your head how much it will cost, would it be too much trouble to tell me?

So oznium.com sells everything for 30.00 (i'm guessing excluding the rear?) and randode.com sells it as a kit for 100.00? The only advantage from randode is that it comes in a kit...or am I missing something?

Thanks for the help btw.

I got the dealer version on my car (not techincal here at all, and it was easiest for me). The cupholder lights are actually 2 small lights in each cupholder, LEDs of course. Actually, my only problem with the work is that there's a visible white thing holding the footwell lights up into the footwells, otherwise, I have no complaints. I got them in amber and will be taking pictuers of them soon and will post them if you want to see?

Yeah go ahead and post them. I mean the ones in the dealership cost $250? On randode.com its 80 right now and from the research I'm doing www.oznium.com has them for even cheaper...

So after doing about 5 minutes of some research...it seems as if www.oznium.com I'd be getting everything for around 30.00, I just don't know what the cup holder LED's would be? I'll have to take a look once I get the car.

So back to the original question, what is the advantage of ordering from randode.com other than it comes all together as a kit for the tC?

well for the gauges go here http://www.garage1217.com/album1_024.htm

the randode kit is everything. 2 cold cathodes and transformers for the front footwells, and 2 for under the seat for the rear and a complete wiring harness and switch. Nice neat clean and simple. I also believe if you talk to him he can build you the cupholder lights into the harness too but you have to drill holes in your cupholders. Also its way brighter then the factory ones.

oznium just sells parts. You have to build it yourself, wires fuses switches etc. They sell everything you need to build it but if your asking these questions you obviously have no idea what your doing. Just buy the kit from randode, super easy to install take 20 minutes.

Well as of right now, no I don't know what I'm doing but I could always learn.

So basically it's oznium.com for the parts not built, and randode for it being built?

Are there any pics of any cars with the white cathode lights in the car? I wonder how that would look?

Do any higher end cars come with cathodes? (BMW, Mercedes, etc)

I'll give a stab at it even though I'm going cockeyed.

Okay, the Scion "Interior Light Kit" is solid plastic tubes that connect to a single LED on the end and shine light across said tube underneath the footwells, and in the cup holders, they drill 2 holes in the sides of the cup holders, put one LED in each cupholder and wire it all to a fuse under the center console, which is connected to a light power source in the front-center console area. Is it worth $250? Only if you have absolutely NO inclination to install it yourself WHAT SO EVER and would rather spend an extra $200 to save you the time/work

and YES I do have the stock "Scion Interior Light Kit" in my car, I didn't know a damn thing about cars back then, shame on me.

NO BMW's and Mercedes don't have interior light kits or cathodes in their cars, because lighting the foot-wells isn't a high-end modification, it's a pep-boys ricer modification.

The stuff they sell on oznium.com is JUST the parts, you're going to have to splice/cut/wire everything and buy everything yourself, including the fuse and switch. The Randode kit is just that, a ready-to-install kit that has everything you need.

I would also like to mention, that Oznium and Randode's kits use cold cathode light tubes that ARE prone to breaking, inaccurate lighting across the cathode, and burning out fairly quickly. The Scion kit uses a total of 4 LED's, 1 in each foot well, and one in each cup holder (none in the back seats or anywhere else) which is not prone to breaking since there's really not much to break, and LED's fed properly with electricity will last a long, long, long time.

OH, and for the gauge cluster light color change, if you have to ask how to do it, you can't do it. contact either SquallLHeart, Garage1217 or a few other people on this site for the color swap, but you are going to have to pay money and go without your gauges for about a week.

hmm... just to add because i'm still conscious enough to think straight enough...

just a small correction.... each rod is powered by 4 leds... not 1 for the scion stuff..

and some higher end cars have regular lighting for footwells... but are used as a door light ONLY.... they turn off and stay off during driving.

and blah blah... ccfl halos now used as oem in headlights for higher end cars?
ccfl = cold cathode.. fluorescent lamps

yeah.. i think higher end cars use cold cathodes.... but not for interior lighting.

Thank ya Squally, I make my car handle, not light up like the sun, so corrections appreciated

I just remember taking off the endcap on the plastic tube and looking at it and seeing one source of light, and I've taken my console apart enough to know there's just one LED there, and everytime I take apart my dash and look at the crimped and t-tap'd wires strewn all around, the more I get disgusted knowing I spent $250 on that half-assed hack work.

Did I mention my cupholder LED's stopped working THREE TIMES since I had my car? Two times of which I took back to the dealership when I needed to go there anyways to get fixed, and the third time I re-wired what needed it and soldered the connections. Problem solved.

and to the OP.. please do me a favor and contact me prior to asking any further questions.

no mean to be disrespectful... however, currently you are digging a big hole, and i'm afraid that if you continue.. i'm not sure how many people, or even myself will be able to help you get out of it.

maybe i'm just tired.... but as i started to read this thread.. my mind kept branching out further and further.... and you made things much more confusing than better.

Thank you for the help I honestly appreciate it.

I'm just trying to learn everything as I'm fairly new to all this (interior of the tC...etc). I read Otocan's post and got enough information from it.

Thank you...SquallLHeart I'll contact you definitely. I added you to my AIM blist and I'll IM you next time I see you.

I'm probably going to get the kits from Randode
everyone saying it is easy to install, plug and play.
i know nothing about this stuff.
is it that easy?
and does it show anything afterwards? like wires or anything sticking out under the footwells or something.
does anyone have any pics of their interior done with the Randode kit?

well its more then plug and play. you'll need to do some wiring to the power source and to ground it. You'll also need to consider if your using a switch or not.

take lens off maplight and pull out bulb. You may need to pull hard to get it out. DO NOT TWIST. Do the smae with the back. remove the lens and pull down bulb. its real easy. Just use a flat head screw driver to remove the lens cap.
