Default Questions - wiring a stock deck to aftermarket sub

So I've searched the threads to no prevail so now Im breaking down and posting hoping to get some answers. So far I've heard that the only way to wire in subs to my stock deck is by either splicing them into the stock harness (blah) which I can't seem to find any info on, or picking up this kit that supposedly has a prewired sub out or RCA plugs to plug into.

Does anyone have any info on either technique?

splicing method requires a low out converter. Not hard to do and maybe cheaper than the add-a-amp harness. Speaker wire on the harness (from the back of the unit) is blue, green, purple and pink.

Agreed...also called low level converters or step downs. They normally run about $20-30. This is the best way to add a sub to an stock deck.
