Default Quick question concerning LED strips and cathodes.

Im planning to do some interior lighting mods on my tc, and part of it putting some LED lights under the seats so it illuminates the back where the back passengers feet are. Theres a kit on randode thats $80 for an under the dash/seat kit. Well, coudnt I just use some ribbon LED strips from oznium ($12.49) instead to get the same effect? Is there a big difference to the cathodes and LED strips?

the kits from randode come with everything you'd need to install. If you know a little about installing stuff and figuring out a way to mount them (zip ties) then you'll be fine with oznium.... thats what i did. Easy and cheap mod. Go with oznium

Ranodes products are way over priced for the quality. Oznium has the better prices, better quality, and better service. I also beleive that ozniums products are much brighter also compared to randodes. Your choice though

I strongly reccomend using cold cathodes over LEDs as far as lighting the floor space. I had LED's installed prior, and wanted to change color so i went with the Oznium cold cathodes and am very pleased with it. They are MUCH brighter and cheaper to as I recall.

It was like $7 for each set. I put 1 set on each side of the car. I am VERY pleased with the quality and price. I don't want to sound like a salesman for them, but it was VERY well worth it.

I'm willing to bet $1 that the oznium strips will be waaaay brighter than the cathodes. With the LEDs you don't have to worry about some careless passenger accidentally kicking the underseat lights.

I'd take you up on the bet. Only that I don't have any LED strips to compare it with. I just now that I spent $20 (inc shipping) to light both sides. I've kicked them before and nothing happens. You'd have to intentionally kick them to do any damage with intent on breaking them. A random kick won't hurt them. And besides, they are pretty small too. (2.6 mm diameter)

These cathodes are pretty dang bright as well. It makes the entire foot space area glow. The bad thing about using the cathodes is that if you have any trash or dirt, it glows so bright that the trash and dirt stand out a lot.

IMO, cathodes are the best bet. Extremely bright and extremely cheap.

I think you mean 2.6 cm not mm (About 1in. through)

D'oh. that makes sense. I read 2.6 mm on Oznium's website. I just wish the US would adopt the metric system more than the stupid US Standard. 12"=1'...WTF???
Metric makes MUCH more sense.

what? You mean 9/64's being just under 5/32's doesn't make immediate sense?

Stop. My head hurts from all those complicated numbers.
My ratchet set has all those lame # configs, but it never stays in order. Now I just look and try. If it doesn't fit, I look for one that's a little bigger/smaller and never at the size. Laziness yes, but at least I don't have to do math!

Stupid US Standard! Metric, metric, metric. Them peeps overseas got it right, why can't we?

(becuase we're too darn stubborn!)

That's the only way I'll break my speed record! (switch from MPH to KPH)

I aggree with ScionJim, I went with cold cathodes from Oznium and find they work very well. Like someone else said, if you know how to install this is a good way to go.

cathodes and leds have different light spreads... it's not really a matter of brightness... but how that brightness is distributed

find whatever is good priced, cheap and works for you.

That's my point...we should go to metric. but I like gallons too much, maybe just distance not volume.

i guess Oznium are brighter then.
but i know nothing about installation, so i will go with Randode.
the thing is that I do not want them too bright.
Does anyone have the Randode kit?
Under the footwell, and seats, is it way too bright?
Like can you see it from outside the car?
Or is it cool, nothing too crazy?

Wll, they are not hard to install at all and oznium does give you directions on how to install. First off, here is a link to pics of the oznium cathodes:
http://www.oznium.com/cathode-kit/action
And here are oznium's directions on the install:

Good luck. If you need help on the install, let me know and ill help ya.
