I guess the pacing thing depends on the officer or trooper on most highways. Yesterday, I was carrying decent speed on the highway in a loaner car for work. I saw the officer at one of those pull off rest stops/gas thingys and slowed down. Unfortunately I ended up matching him when he was on the on ramp for the plaza so I kindly moved into the left lane to let him on. I was then hoping he would speed up and I could pull behind him. WRONG!. He goes about 63 on my passengerside rear just close enough that I couldn't merge back. So I speed up and pull infront of him. The limit was 65 and I was doing about 68. So he was behind me for about 1min before I see him drop way back and set up behind an overpass. I thought for sure he was gonna nab me. I guess he did have better things to do.
Another thing, I thought PA was supposed to be cracking down on all their highways this weekend and I think this entire month. I heard something like someone was gonna get pulled over every 10min. In my 40mins of travel on that road, I didn't see one person pulled over nor did I see more than 2 police cars, maybe.
Back on topic, I hope to pick up a radar dector and scanner pretty soon since I am doing a cross country road trip with my friends. SerialK1llr thanks for the links.

I asked if there was a discount for buying multiple ones but they said no. I am going to start another thread and see how many people are interested and try to reapproach them again.

I personally find no point in a radar detector and my reasoning is this. If a LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) wants to give you a ticket they will. Keep in mind that LEO’s radars are not constantly running, there is a transmit button that will turn the radar off until you hit the button again to turn it on getting your speed instantly with your radar going off for a second. Thus making a radar detector only has a couple of beeps because the LEO turned on the radar to CONFIRM someone’s speed. I capitalized confirm because a LEO that is radar operator certified technically does not need a radar. Radar is there to confirm the estimate they made about your speed. So what I am saying is, cops don't even need radar to write you a speeding summons. You may ask that’s not fair and what not, but its a 100 hour training course plus you have a practical that you have to be able to estimate a vehicle speed and be within 3 miles an hour plus or minus. Keep in mind that this is the way it works in NJ, I can not vouch for other states.

to my knowledge in california, for a speeding ticket to be valid, they need to have a radar detector. The radar may be on or off or on trasmit mode, but you increase your chances of "seeing" the cop" if you have a radar detector. MOre than likely if in transmit mode, you will have a better chance with a radar detector to see the cop than without one. And more than likely you aren't on the road alone and so when that radar goes off and hits another car, your detector will probably see it.

I am selling a new whistler 3450 with the optional voice speaker for $250 if anybody is interested let me know. This is a new unit that I bought and it did not fit because I bought a new grill for my car (so I didnt install it and I didnt know I was going to buy the new grill so soon).

well believe it or not my first ticket was a year ago in my supra and the guy said he clock-paced me at 75mph for 10 blocks which i knew was total BS but didnt realize this till i went home because i was so wanting 2 just get home on time before my mom started getting any suspicions...well anyway i took it to the lawyer for 60 bucks and that was the end of that...but yeah...just because it doesnt say radar on the ticket doesnt mean they cant make up a fancy name for estimating like "clock paced" btw i was an explorer once also and we were taught to write radar and the speed.

http://radardetector.net/

go there

best one for 100 dollars is the whistler pro58

dont get cobras, they are terrible, the operate on a low xband signal and cannot detect cops at a long enough range

yea I've got a whistler from walmart...yea no bashin guys...but man that bad boy will pick up ANY and EVERYTHING to security banks....police (state, troopers, city boys, etc.) that thing has saved me like 200 yrds. away before i could even see a cop...its a full 360 degree radar detection and only 40 DOLLARS!!!!....

take my advise and get yourself one just to have it...its only illegal in two state in the whole US....i think VA and..DC or sumptin like that i know in virgina its illegal for sure but theres one other besides that your allowed to have um......

BUT another little story to bore you...my buddie was speedin and he had one of those cobra radars....well he said it was unpluged...(due to the reason he got pulled over) so he didnt even have it pluged in because he forgot...BUT since it was on the winshield and the cop saw it EVEN though they are not illegal...my friend said well dont I get a warning..and he pointed at the radar detector and said theres your warning...heres your ticket have a nice day LOL ...(pigs)

You get pulled over with a radar detector your are going to get a ticket. But then again if you get pulled over chances are your going to get a ticket anyways.
Whistlers i guess are better than cobras. But if you buy the top three the are rated in 1000s' of feet for warning and on x band that warning can go out to 9 miles. Also with the bel i have I dont get so many falses as i did when i had a cobra. It filters out a lot of crap. Price isnt bad either i bought mine for 208.00 thats not a large amount of change when you compare what its going to cost you with insurance and court fees.
Ps
laser detection on radar detectors only warn when it is too late
